Sir Ridley Scott, whats next?

I came across an interesting interview, where Sir RS said he was planning to make Gladiator 2. Based after Gladiator around Lucious with less Gladiator battles and more Politics!

The full interview can be found HERE.

The interview suggested a 2005 release date which as we all know contained another Scott epic Kingdom of Heaven.

At the very end of the interview Ridley says, "We managed to film Gladiator without once mentioning Jesus Christ. I think in the current climate, focusing on religion may be seen as contentious."

Which made me chuckle given Kingdom of Heavens subject matter.

So does anyone have any idea whats next for Sir Ridley?

Personaly I think he should make another Sci-Fi movie. The Thing 2 set in space would be an excellent idea.

Re: Sir Ridley Scott, whats next?

no scifi yet planned so no Alien.

Shadow Divers (2007) (announced)
Two wreck divers discover the hull of German U-boat off the coast of New Jersey and spend the next seven years of their lives searching for the truth behind the ship and men who died inside it.

American Gangster (2007) (filming)
A drug lord smuggles heroin into Harlem during the 1970s by hiding the stash inside the coffins of American soldiers returning from Vietnam.

A Good Year (2006) (completed)
An Englishman (Crowe) inherits a vineyard in Provence. Upon arriving at his new property, he meets an American woman who claims that the land is hers.

Out of 26 films/tv he has directed, only 2 have been scifi, and they are the 2 famous known ones.

Love to seen scott do a Aliens film.

but Steven Spielberg has done 7 or 8 scifi films out of 49, and has this movie planned.

Interstellar (2009)
An exploration of physicist Kip Thorne's theories of gravity fields, wormholes and several hypotheses that Albert Einstein was never able to prove.

Not sure if im right, but im sure i heard a couple of years ago that Ridley and James Cameron were talking in possibly working together to do another Alien film to get the series back to where it should be after films 3 and 4(i did like them myself but they were nowhere near as good as the first two). It was porbably nothing but rumour but we can live and hope.

John Carpenter made The Thing but can you see any Studio giving him the money to make a multi million dollar sequel?

The Thing was very much inline with Alien. It took a groop of isolated people, which relied on technolgy to keep them alive and let a monster loose to pick the them off one by one. So if you took same premise, credible director (Ridley), new monster (The Thing) and different setting (A space station) I'm pretty sure we'd have another hit on our hands.

There is an interview in this months Total Film with Sigourney Weaver, in it she mentions that she spoke with Ridley a few times about doing a 5th. She said if the right script and right director came along she would be happy to do it.

She also mentioned that she would like to do it on a relatively low budget with out too much CGI etc.

So its a possibility... it really depends on a script coming up and Fox willing to go with it. Fingers crossed ay!
