Technics - Are they still around
I have recently been looking to replace my Amp (technics SU-A700) really good piece of kit until the wife had a go with it, I think the speaker cables shorted, still have'nt figured how but anyhow sound from the right channel only.
Can't seem to find any info on the current Technics separates range, the website takes you to a Technics 'DJ' page doing turntables only.
Thanks
Naz

Re: Technics - Are they still around
I'm sure others will be more help, but I can't see any hifi on either the Panny (the parent company) or Technics sites. May mean nothing, may mean, as you say they've given up the chase.
I would have to say around that price point there is a lot better you can do than a stock Japanese amplifier anyway.
Or, if you really like the sound, look into getting it fixed.

Re: Technics - Are they still around
Technics and Panasonic are closely linked. They may not be selling their separates in the UK. The mantle has been picked up by the likes of Marantz, some Sony offerings and the usual suspects like Pioneer and Denon. If Japanese iron is your thing then look there but don't be closed to the likes of Cambridge Audio.

Panasonic are Technic parent company. I would agree cable, if you want to stay Japanese then Denon and Marantz would be the avenue at the price point the SU-A700 was at. I would also agree that NAD and Cambridge could offer more at that price.

Re: Technics - Are they still around
I suppose I need to get out of my comfort zone and do need to consider the NAD's and Cambridge gear. TBH I am not really a purist as read by on What Hifi magazine, in my younger years I was more prone to button count that sound!
Now I am looking for a no frills unit (although a remote would be nice!)
Thanks
Naz

Naz, stick down your budget, what inputs you need, and the rough area you live and the guys can come up with some suggestions. If you are in the £120 - 200 zone, the Cambridge Azur's, The Marantz PM4001, Denon 255, Nad C320BEE and the cheaper Rotels are all quality amps.

Re: Technics - Are they still around
Technics are no more. They still do the 1200/1210 decks and its accessories but nothing else. They stopped a couple of years ago.
I also have the same amplifier and it is fantastic and beats many amps including NAD. I have it attached to my computer and a Technics SL 1700 deck.

Re: Technics - Are they still around
Technics and Panasonic are both brand names belonging to Matsu****a, the Technics name was fazed out a few years back in the UK leaving only
the SL range of turntables in the hi-fi seperates under the Technics brand.
You can still buy Technics seperates in Japan but in the UK look
to the likes of Denon, Marantz and Teac.
