Can you do this with Squeezebox...?

Sorry if this has been covered before but I can't find any threads relating to it.

If I hook a wireless squeezebox to my Yamaha RX-V 1500 amp, which is also linked to the TV for home cinema use, would I be able to use the TV screen as a monitor ,rather than the small squeezebox screen, so that track selection can be done from the sofa?

Secondly. My PC has wireless output via a small (approx 10cm black aerial) My sons laptop can link to the internet from his bedroom with it but will this be good enough for the squeezebox or will I need something else. The PC is in a different room to the TV.

Thanks in advance

First part...sadly not, the Squeezebox doesn't have a TV out

As for the second, you could setup an ad-hoc network using the built in wireless, but often they aren't as reliable as a proper infrastructure network (a cheap access point would solve the problem)

Re: Can you do this with Squeezebox...?

Thanks for the swift response Andrew.

Shame about not being able to use the TV as a monitor.

You will gather from my next point I am not too technical. I do not really understand what you mean when you say 'Set up an ad hoc network'. How would I do this?

I am interested in the point you say about a cheap access point would solve the problem. I just happen to have a D-Link 2.4Ghz Wireless access point (DWL-900AP+). I bought it to try and solve my sons internet access at university as we thought that it could wirelessly link to the modem that they were sharing in the house but we could never get it to work (apparently we should have got a router but thats a different story)

How can I use this to link to a Squeezebox?
I have looked at my PC tower and the 'hole' that I think I need to use is already in use by the NTL broadband box.

If I were to use this does it mean that my broadband to the PC would have to be wireless as well? or am I simply being a bit dim (don't answer that as I already know the answer.)

Sorry for all the questions but I really fancy a Squeezebox as the answer to my music listening in the lounge.

Re: Can you do this with Squeezebox...?

That would work, but it seems like your broadband is also ethernet, so you would need one of the following:

1) A second network card for the access point

2) A switch between the access point and the rest (not sure how well this would work)

3) A wireless router (preferred option). You could then plug the broadband modem into this and have wireless internet on the computer and the squeezebox.

The other advantage is that you could listen to internet radio without needing the PC switched on.
This would be a good option:

Hope this helps, any other questions, let me know

Re: Can you do this with Squeezebox...?

Thanks Andrew. The link looks quite an interesting bit of kit.

I thought that buying a squeezebox would be quite a simple and straightforward process without me needing anything else.

Oh well back to the drawing board.

Re: Can you do this with Squeezebox...?

It would be possible straight from the computer if you wanted to get up and running quickly, I just found it slightly less reliable
