AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400 1MB Cache per core (2.2GHz) Skt 939 Retail inc.fan (3yr Manufacturers Warranty) £158.00

is this cpu a good starting point, coupled with a abit mboard, i would like some recomendations for the board,

its time for me to change to pci ex. let me have ur veiws on a wide range of components.

i do not want to be changing again next year.

BEAR IN MIND I ONLY NEED cpu, mboard, memory, and gcard, with a budget of between £500 and £600...

Re: new GAMING sys build, need advice !

That sounds pretty good to me, you could however go with a socket AM2 motherboard over the 939, they seem a bit more future proof. There is a nice article looking at AM2 DDR2 vs. 939 DDR Performance

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...oc.aspx?i=2741

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600 Socket AM2 2.4GHz 1MB 1000FSB £157.32 inc vat

Asustek AM2 nForce 570 SLI ATX Audio Dual Lan DDR11 £93.85 inc vat

Gainward GeForce 7900GT Bliss Golden Sample GPU Clockspeed 550 MHz 256MB PCIE Dual DVI VO £199.98 inc vat

Iam still sticking to my 939 motherboard for now though...

Get the conroe 6600 with the 4mb cache. Only £50 or so more expensive, and a much better chip.
