Help setting up file sharing.

Hi

I am having problems setting up file sharing on winxp.

All i want to do is share some folders with my laptop.I have tried the network wizard but doesn't seem to have worked properly.

If someone could provide an idiots guide, it would be appreciated.

My setup is as follows:Desktop pc, linksys wrt54g router, acer laptop.Winxp home on both.

The desktop is wired to the router and the laptop is wireless.

Thanks!

Re: Help setting up file sharing.

You have right mouse clicked on the folders you want to share and chosen the 'sharing and security' option haven't you?

Re: Help setting up file sharing.

Hi, bigbry.

I have shared 1 folder to test things out, but the laptop is not "seeing" it.

I have done some detective work and have found that the desktop (client?) can "see" the laptop when i click on "view workgroup computers"
but the laptop gives an error message:"MSHOME is not accessible. You might not have permission to access this network resource.Network path not found."
When i do the same thing.

I bet it's something simple..........

EDIT:I was right... I forgot to tick the share files box in sygate firewall options.
All sorted now!

Re: Help setting up file sharing.

More info needed.

What are the internal IP addresses of both machines for a start. If you can include the Subnet mask this will help eliminate the problem of the machines being on a different subnet.

Can you ping either machine? Do you have any firewalls installed and turned on (are you running SP2?)
