bt voyager to d-link wireless access point

hi,

hope somebody may be able to help. been trying to get sorted since 0730 this morning and getting nowhere!

here's the problem;

I currently have a usb adsl modem that gets me on to internet, and a lan cable that connects PC1 to PC2. have just got a used bt voyager 210 adsl router (modem) and d-link 2100 wireless access point (wap). downloaded the drivers for the modem (wap came with all drivers). trying to get "into" the modem to configure. tried typing "voyager.home" and "voyager210.home" into browser address bar (but good old ie7 knows best and puts a http:// in front and tells me it can't find).

can anybody advise how i can get into the modem to configure?

after this, I intend to connect the modem to the wap and confgure the wap (looks easier as it has a toolbox to work through). then I intend to try to move to complete wireless, i.e. wap & modem connected via ethernet then computers roam freely about the house and connect via wifi to www. sounds like a good concept, but as I have been stuck on step 2 all day, it is obviously not easy (step 1 was get stuff stuck on wall and connected to power and options to each other).

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Pete

Yup it'll be a 192.168.xxx.xxx address, mine is 192.168.1.64. You can usually find the correct one via the ipconfig /all command in cmd.

Re: bt voyager to d-link wireless access point

Please excuse me for asking another question on this thread, but I too am having grief, but with a BT Voyager 2500v Router.

I've got a Laptop and PC both connected wirelessly to the www via the Router, but I'm trying to get the puters to talk to each other too..

Do I need more equipment, or can I achieve a home network with what I already have?

I've tried the 'set up home network' wizard.....no joy.

Can someone explain how to do it in simple steps....

Both machines are on XP home, both on Norton NIS 2005.

Help appreciated

Re: bt voyager to d-link wireless access point

Firstly get rid of Norton Internet Security. Quite apart from stopping more allowed traffic than threats, the firewall is unnecessarily over complicated for a home user. Most routers have a more than satisfactory firewall built in, if you are still worried use the windows firewall. Replace antivirus with Eset's NOD32. They are at the top of the game.

This may solve the problem. However if you still have problems run the home network setup wizard on one computer and allow it to make a setup disk for the other.

Thanks for the reply, but I've just sussed it.....

I added the IP addresses and subnet mask Nos into the LAN properties on each machine, then told NIS to allow traffic from those numbers too.

Not as quick as my internet connection, but I can share files between machines at around 1Mb sec, so quite useable.
