Does anyone have any news on the new Wicker Man remake?

Is it any good? Absolutely love the old one so not expecting too much. Especially as I find Nicolas Cage either really good or extremely annoying.

No magazines seem to have much about it?

As I am thinking of going on Friday I do not want to waste my money if it is really poor.

Thanks

Haven't seen any reviews, which usually spells trouble. Saw the trailer and it looked a bit rubbish - there were some strange supernatural CGI effects being used.

The original is a classic, though!!

Didn't see any CGI in the trailers I've seen (of which there seem to be plenty) but the trailer does imply a more action-packed interpretation of the story, for shame.

One thing's for sure, I can't see there being any May pole dancing in this one and I'd be very surprised if they have anything to match a naked Britt Ekland dancing around her bedroom singing "Hey ho, who is there..."

(have posted this in the other thread)
Well I watched in on Saturday and it was not quite as bad as it could have been. However the story was different but not for the better. I guess if the director had done a shot for shot remake like the newer version of Pyscho then he would have been slated for that as well.

Nicolas Cage was most definiltey mis-cast, they should have had an unknown actor (would have saved them a fortune as well) He spends most of the time wandering around looking bewildered.
Edward Woodward's character PC Howie had real strength and presence, Cage does not.
I won't say anymore as there may be some people who still want to see it.
Interestley Cage's character name is Edward and the girl his is looking for is Rowan Woodward.
Any connection with the original one?
All in all the original is vastly superior in all aspects and it was a film that did not need to be remade. :(

Mark Kermode's review slated it, as soon as he stated it was a 12 rating I thought   :god: :rotfl:

Ooh, I dunno, Mark Kermode was apoplectic in his scathing attack on Revenge On The Sith and I didn't agree with him on that film. On the other hand, he has a perfect grasp on Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Ultimately, he's just a reviewer whose opinions are no more valid than anyone else's.

My mind was made up as soon as I heard there was a remake coming. Won't be seeing it, won't be renting it. Hopefully enough people will be of the same view; god knows how awful it will be if it's a success as then there'll be a sequel and/or a prequel. And that's something we really don't need.

I thought a remake would be a waste of time (they normally are), and the "suprise" ending of the orginal kind of made a remake invalid.

The point I was getting to on the Mark Kermode review was he slated it (his personal opinion,I agree), but he also pointed out some major problems, like re-releasing what was an adult rate film as a 12A. Also the charm with the original Wickerman was its "Britishness" - its just ridiculous hollywood treat remakes as an easy way to make money, I hope its fails to make a profit, then maybe they will change their ideas...

The trailers make the film look visually arresting but Nicolas Cage is (in my opinion) such an overrated actor (when was the last good film he was in?) and he more and more hams it up for the camera like a really bad James Stewart impression. I fear that the remake won't be that good, just because of him.

Couldn't agree more, it should have been left alone.
