Hello,

I have just visited the Dolby homepage and didnt realise you could get DD and DD EX from headphones. But the question is, what amplifier or DVD player are able to do this or do you buy an add on peice to your present equipment.

Its great to imagine watching a film at night with high volume so next door dont knock and my 2 girls dont come down and tell me to turn volume down, heaven. The action films I have to watch in the day (dreaded sunlight)

If anyone has got any info on Dolby headphone please let me know,

Bye Phill

Hi

Dolby Headphone is available on the Denon A1SR and also is included in the upgrade for the Denon A1SE.

If you want to hear a version of it, theres a Dolby Headphone track included on the Pearl Harbour dvd (Region 1 definitely, not sure about Region 2) just connect your headphones to your amp, select the headphone track on the dvd and off you go.

Its not the full blown Dolby Headphone version but will give you an idea of what its like, the Dolby Headphone technology in the Denon amps gives you different modes etc

Not sure if there is a stand alone decoder available that has it??

Cheers

A lot of the newer Yamaha amps/receivers such as the DSP 630 offer what looks like a similar feature called "Silent Cinema".

Then again as they don't exactly call it Dolby Headphone, maybe this is a licensed term and Yamaha are using their own implementation of the technology. Similar story to the early days of Dolby EX where this term could only be employed by companies with THX certified kit. Other companies called their version something like "Matrix 6.1" or whatever.

Take your favourite headphones to a friendly dealer and have a listen. Then let us know what you think.

The Dolby Headphhone soundtrack is in fact a full-blown real Dolby Headphone one. There are two ways to get this DH encoding scheme into your headphones: Dolby could pre-encode it and put it as a separate soundtrack on the DVD (Pearl Harbor), or you could use a DH decoder on any Dolby Surround soundtrack and have the same result.

Hope this is clear.
