Are you looking for free software or paid for?

Also, you should also consider running a HW firewall of some kind - Most wifi routers come with a limited HW FW...

Ultimately your habits at the end of the day, even with all the precautions affect your security. If a site is dodgy, why keep going? And I'm not talking about torrents. Saying that, there are plenty of safe sources for the legal use of p2p and torrent software

Try these from here (http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=377594) I have listed below what I think are the best (red) and the best freeware (green) of the available choices from my browsing around. No suites have been included, I want individual pieces.

FIREWALL. . . . ..Agnitum Outpost Pro 2.5. ... .Zone Alarm 6.5

ANTI-VIRUS. ... .F-Prot Anti-virus . . . . . . . .. AVG Anti-virus

SPYWARE . . . . .Webroot SpySweeper. . . . . . MS AntiSpyWare; Adaware SE Pro

SPAM FILTERING InBox v2. . . . . . . . . . . . . .. SpamBayes
and read this (http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3302059) also.

But . . .

Ultimately your habits at the end of the day, even with all the precautions affect your security. and

It's also important to remember that regardless of what s/w or h/w you use, ultimately your behaviour, habits and usage are paramount. As springtide (http://www.avforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3301065&postcount=11) so eloquently states "[don't be the] lowest hanging fruit".is equally as important.

Nod32 is the best AV product I have used and I have used a few to say the least.

http://www.eset.com/

It is cheap, very low memory and CPU footprint and can be installed on a server.

I have used Zonealarm extensively in the past and it is very good for advanced users but most of the time the Windows Firewall in SP2 is sufficient for regular users, just disable ICMP echo response.

Have you got a Router or are you simply using an ADSL modem? If you are using a router have a look at the security settings provided since you should be able to disable ICMP echo response via the router (Disable Ping from the internet).

I would also recommend Microsoft Defender for Antispyware which is currently on a beta 2 but is well worth using.

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

Nod32 does include antispyware definitions and seems to be doing a good job, but I tend to use it in conjunction with defender myself.

If you use P2P software you are asking for trouble, but with Nod32 you should be ok, provided you aren't a cheapstake/fool and only use the trial edition and leave it at that.

When you say a few weird things have been happening lately, what exactly do you mean? This will give us a better chance of telling you if you have something to worry about. Ofcourse, if you are not using any AV then you do definately have something to be worried about, particularly if you use online banking/shopping from that machine!
