It can't be genuine if you get that on boot up.
If you have been told it is genuine where did you buy? Go back to them and demand a genuine version.
You can get a script to remove it but as it's not genuine I would go back to the place of purchase and demand another copy.

Where did you buy the computer from? Did the OS come pre-installed? Or was this something you did yourself? If you really believe it is genuine contact Microsoft and explain the situation a few people have had the same problem -Microsoft was able to fix it over the phone.
However, don't try this if you know your copy isn't genuine.

Deer Hunter,
if your copy is genuine it will have a sticker somwhere on the pc with the product key and other numbers. Simply ring up Microsoft and explain your predicament and if you are a genuine user they will talk you through the process of validating your operating system. This is the only legal way of achieving what you want. If you have been miss sold then go to where you purchased the software. If no luck report them to Microsoft.

Hi,
Please try the following steps:
Open Internet Explorer
Click the Tools menu at the top
Click on the “manage add-ons”
Find and remove the “WGA Active X Control”
Find and remove the “legitcheckcontrol.dll”
Close all open windows and then go to the following link:
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/offers.
Follow the steps to re-activate your system
If this doesnt help, try attack #2
do a custom scan at windows update and install the newest release of 905474
Background:
Several customers around the World received WGA validation error as outlined above. Error would also include code 0x80080299 and validation failed. This affected home and enterprise users.
Overview of Issue
After some research, the update itself (KB905474) was not at fault. The core issue was the publishing of the update. Essentially, there was a revision of the update to add additional local support. This caused customer’s who had downloaded but not yet installed the previous revision to encounter this error. This error basically means an update is required to be installed but the content is not downloaded correctly.
Future Prevention
To resolve this issue and ensure that this does not occur again, a new process has been put in place to expire previously deployed updates and adding the revisions as a completely new update. The WGA team has collaborated with the Windows Update team to confirm that this new approach will solve current and future issues
