DVD 2800 MkII "Wavey Lines"

I'm getting 7 horizontal lines when playing dvd's.. I've checked the component cables and it lessened to an extent....so I swapped the cables for another set, and they returned, with no amount of fiddling having any effect... where is this feedback coming from? is it a common fault?

Could be a ground loop problem maybe? If it is then you need to track down the culprit as it could be any part of the system. Means unplugging connection cables one at a time to see if there's any change.

Do you have another player you could check, in case it's the DVD player itself?

No, my "spare" dvd player does not have component out... I could change to the scart output on the player...see if it keeps doing it....
