Has anyone owned one or seen a review for one?
Just wonder if its worth getting to replace my 21" crt. It will be used almost exclusively for gaming. I know its probably worth spending more money but the ammount I have spent the last few months prohibits spending to much more:eek:

looks ok - but seems weird that the widescreen version is cheaper than the 4:3 version of the same monitor!

Thank you. I noticed that play where the cheapest on the web for one as the postage is included :smashin:
Are you gonna use it with dvi or vga??

The only reviews I've been able to find are from "users" so i've no idea how reliable they are. Having said that Dabs (http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.aspx?&+&Quicklinx=446N&PageOffset=0&RecordOffset=0&v=3#infoarea) buyers seem to love it.
I've just ordered there @ £137 delivered as Play are now up to £140. Shame that we don't get the black option though.

What speaker system are you using with that?

Logitech 5.1, cost around £50.
Obviously it's not set up as surround though, nowhere to put the rear speakers ;)

Well, I got round to trying out the 360 on the monitor and it's nothing short of stunning. The detail is so clear and everything is super sharp. Any scaling going on in the background seems completely unnoticeable.
Tried PGR3 and Moto GP 06 and I'm super impressed. So much so, I'm thinking of moving the 360 off my Sharp P55 downstairs and putting it upstairs to share the new monitor with my pc!
However, there is a small fly in the ointment.
The phono input for sound on the monitor is in an awful place, so your little mini jack that converts the two audio plugs on the 360 won't fit because the stand gets in the way. I have a little extension lead I can use, you can get them for a couple of quid. It's a male phono at one end and female at the other, I'll try it out later.
I hear the speakers are a bit rubbish on the monitor anyway, so it's probably best to use something else. It's my only option upstairs at the moment though.
Bargain though at £129 :)

More help please. Can you recommend a good but not to expensive AGP graphics card for this monitor at the moment i have a Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 & the processor is a AMD Athlon 1.33GHz ( Will be getting a new computer in about 6 months thats why i don't want to spend to much ) at the moment the best screen res i can get is 1152 by 864 pixels.
Look for a cheap Radeon 9700/9800/pro. That should do it and allow you to use dvi for a better prcture, or the nvidia alternative (4/fx/6 series). They are a few years old but still good for most old games.

What happens if you play an old game with a 4:3 aspect ratio? Will it stretch to fill the screen or display an undistorted image (with black bars left and right)?
Thanks.

I don't play games so can't comment on it's performance there but as a PC monitor, it's fine. I went widescreen because it's better fit for the native output from a dSLR.
With distance selling regs on your side, what have you got to lose?
Can someone tell me which delivery service/courier play.com use for large products such as this?
Is it royal mail like the games, or some dodgy courier which will mean me driving 40 miles to pick it up when I miss the delivery.
Also, would it be better (or is it even possible) to use DVI to connect to a 360? Or is it just a case of using the VGA cable in to the VGA input?

This is back in stock at Amazon for £129.99. I would like to get one but my only concern is it worth getting over a standard shaped monitor when I don't do games or DVD's on the monitor.
I am also concerned about whether it is worth it going from a 17" (set to 1024 x 768) to as 19" WS rather than a standard 19" at 1280 x1024. I mainly do the internet and office programs.

I don't need space saving as I already have 17" TFT (broken though). My question was whether to go to 19" WS TFT instead of 19" standard TFT. I want to see a noticeable improvement.
Can somone give me the dimensions for just the 19" 16:10 screen? All the ones I have found is for the entire width/height of the monitor.

I managed to compare a normal 19" at 1280 x 1024 against a 19" WS at 1440 x 900. The resolution is too small on both. I use 1024 x 768 and a 19" at that resolution was wonderful to look at. I ordered the normal Hanns G 19" at £120 from Amazon.

OK. I just saw this thread and looks like this monitor is very good and reliable, isnt it?
This is within my budget and will look on Amazon and Play and see if I can order it.
Anything bad to say about this, anyone?
only that it isnt as cheap as it was and that puts it in range of bigger nam brands

hey folks, i had one of these things delivered this morning. lovely looking thing, but it doesn't display the correct resolution.
i've installed the drivers and i've updated the drivers for my graphics card, but for some reason it won't show me the option of selecting 1440 x 900 res which is what's supposed to be the max res on this monitor. that res doesn't even appear on the slider bar when changing the res.
i'vebeen through all the trouble shooting, but my options at the mo are 1280 x 768 which looks terrible, or 1600 x 900, which is a bit stretched and certain text doesn't display clearly. like the title bars of windows and the text within them, is kindo of...erm, not blurred, but not clear, you can see it looks scrunched up.
now, is this a problem with my memory card? i thought it was at first, but seeing as it'll allow me to select a res right up to 2000, i can't see how it's that. it just won't display the correct res (1440 x 900).
someone please help!!

I have just ordered this model from Amazon. Can someone please tell me what DVI cable (a male or female ???) to buy and from where. Also recommend reasonably priced speakers. Thanks
Also recommend reasonably priced speakers. Thanks
Have a look at good old fleabay if you want some creative ones at a reasonable price. Some might be factory refurbs but they work perfectly and if they dont they have a full warrenty.
I wouldn't recommend this monitor to movie watchers/gamers. I've had nothing but trouble with them, serious backlight bleed along the bottom and some at the top of all 5 I've tried. I truly wish I'd done the smart thing and returned it to Amazon during the first month...
On a related note, don't expect the 3 year warranty to be worth anything. All Hanns G do outside the first month of purchase is replace your faulty monitor with another faulty monitor someone else has sent in an endless cycle. The only time the warranty is good is when your monitor stops working completely.
It's cheap for a reason. I'm going to stay away from no-name brands when it comes to LCD technology in the future, it just isn't worth the hassle.

i went with the hanns-g in the end:
http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/657/864/-/1094000/Hanns-G-HGHW191-19-Widescreen-TFT-Monitor/Product.html?searchtype=genre
i wasn't looking for something amazingly good, i was thinking of getting this:
http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3359652/Samsung-SyncMaster-SM920NW-19-Widescreen-TFT-Flat-Panel-Monitor-Silver/Product.html
but as you can see this does not come with DVI whereas the hanns-g does, so i figured i would get the hanns-g. i hope this is a good purchase. judging from the pics earlier in this thread i think it may well be!
i have a question though, can i still use this set up even though the monitor has the green headphone jack input? (the reason being i have already bought the parts!)
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i133/pez_555/monitorsetup.jpg
so can i still use this set up, even though nothing will be plugged directly into the monitor to get sound from?
i will let everyone know how it is when i get it!
thanks for the help aswell. :D

i have been testing out resolutions regarding the 360. the best resolution in my opinion is the 1024 x 768. this resolution seems to work the best because it fills the entire screen. with the other resolutions they tend not to fill the entire screen.
however with the 1024 x 768 resolution the games will not look as crisp, but its not THAT noticable. with the 1366 x 768 or 1280 x 720 resolutions you will get about a cm of screen not filled and will result in the inevitable black line at the edge of the screen, however its not very noticable. its all about personal preference really, i find that i prefer the entire screen to be filled, therefore i use 1024 x 768

Would everybody here still say that this is the cheapest & best LCD for Xbox 360 gaming at the mo?
It is £119 at Amazon, and I just wondered whether I had any other options other than the Hanns G?
Is everybody still showing love to the monitor, or has it proven to be a pig in the long run?
