I ask this because I'm wanting to ditch my Oppo and just use my PC.
However, I've tried plenty of software codecs (MPC's internal one, ffdshow, Cyberlink), and PowerDVD 7 (w/ AVIVO), and have still yet to find anything with image quality even remotely as good as my Oppo.

What is regarded as the best DVD/Mpeg2 solution?

The nVidia Purevideo decoder on its own can be used with Windows Media Player...And if you are only after DVD playback you may want to take a look at Theatretek which includes the nVidia Purevideo codec but also allows for FFDSHOW to be used as a scaler....

Unfortunately you don't mention anything about how you've got your PC connected, what resolution you are working on and what screen you have got...All factors that imo matter more than which codec you are using....

LG 26LX2R screen, connected via DVI, 1360x768, looks a treat :) Just very disappointed that PowerDVD 7 w/ AVIVO doesn't come close to my Oppo.

Will give those a go though! Building me a new machine in a few weeks anyway w/ an Nvidia card, and thus, PureVideo.

You don't need an nVidia card for Purevideo, it is not nVidia specific...
