Streaming Music from NAS to Netgear MP101

Morning all

Sorry if I'm being a bit thick here;
Got a 250Gb NAS as I didn't want to leave the PC on all the time for streaming music to my Netgear MP101.
Attached the NAS directly to my wireless router (which is in the hall, seperate from the PC).
Configured the NAS and transferred all the music onto it no probs.

Trouble is of course, as soon as I shut the PC down, the Music Server software shuts down and the MP101 can't find any server.
Tried reinstalling the Server software onto the NAS drive, but this was probably pointless as Windows is on my PC, and of course, as soon as PC Windows shuts down, the music server software shut down again.

People on here recommended an NAS to avoid leaving the PC on all the time; what's the trick for getting the playing device to see the music?

if i remember correctly the mp101 does not support nas drives... the server be it netgear or twonky needs to be installed and running on a pc. your best best would be to buy a mini pc (low power cinsumption) and run it on that

What model of NAS is it ?

Edit :- looks like you're PC is acting as a server with having to install software, so you would have to leave it on to serve you music device . You would need a music device that could directly Search for & use windows/samba servers nativley for streaming

It's a Buffalo Linkstation HD-H250LAN

Hmmm... that wouldn't surprise me given what I carried out yesterday...

If that's the case, I can see the argument progressing for a Sonos...

Only certain NAS boxes work with twonkyvision, but luckily yours is one of them.

Follow these instructions to install twonky and it should work:

Only thing before I try this; given how limited the MP101 seems to be, does anyone happen to know if the Netgear player will recognise a Twonkyvision server?

Yep, it will work fine, even better, with twonky than the netgear software.

I use my MP101 with twonky and it is much more reliable.

Used to run 2x MP101's myself (using Roku's now) but the Netgear's work much much better with Twonkyvision than the rubbish Netgear software and from memory as well as faster browsing you get a useful Album/artist view

Make sure you MP101 has the latest firmware from the Netgear website before moving to Twonky though as you can only upgrade the firmware on the MP101's via the Netgear software. MP101's are much more stable on the latest firmware.
