Anyone gonna be switching to Sky as their broadband provider?
Seriously thinking about switching from Blueyonder to Sky when it comes out
Only thing worrying me is the " if it aint broke dont fix it thing" - internet, router and xbox live all working perfectly always a worry about changing ISP:confused:

I know how you feel. I'm switching from BT to talk talk and I'm a bit nervous about getting the setup right. However, it is a lot cheaper

I'm going to be switching from AOL to Skys £10 service (when it eventually comes out:rolleyes:). I've had no problems whatsoever with AOL but it's just too expensive!

was a bit worried about the speed/reliability of adsl as im with cable at the mo
gotta be worth a try though - currently paying £25 a month for 4mb, as long as i get a similar level of speed ill be happy:thumbsup:

Agree with the speed/reliabitity issues of ADSL as i'm on 10mb NTL for £35pm with no issues at all ATM (last 6yrs) would be very interested when it becomes available in my home area thou....
I have BT ADSL business at work (nothing else available :() and it is down 2-3 times per month, sometimes for days before its back on!! NTL & their CS are total poo but the cable network seems very stable and fast!

Last time I remember Sky by Broadband is no ISP, its just a service so you can watch movies by you're broadband.

Well I'm seriously thinking of switching. I'm on AOL Silver at the moment and want to change over to either Sky's middle or top package. Even on the top one, it'll still be £5 cheaper than AOL and I'll be getting up to 16mb. I've just got to wait until it rolls out in the South Wales valleys.

There's nothing to release, they wont be in "most" places until the end of 2007

The £10 service is the one I would get 16mb!!!! But I hope SKY will provide a good service.

Ok, I'll start by completely agreeing with the motto "if it aint broke dont fix it"
I had Sky broadband installed on the 30th august and then my line was activated on the 31st, my so called free professional installation was a shambles as it couldnt be tested or configured and although Sky emailed me stating i could get 16mb it now looks like my line can only take 4mb.
Ive had problems from day with disconnects and speed drops on the internet, i am constantly switching the modem router off and on. On the 13th september i bought a replacement 360 for one i sold a few months back (long story involving birth of my baby boy) i thought the problems couldnt get any worse but they did! random disconnects from Xbox Live. I'd had a gutfull and decided yet again a phone call was needed.
The sky technical assistant explained that i needed to contact Microsoft so they could help me with the config of the router to work with Live, taking the 360 out of the equation i asked them to explain why i still had unstable service prior to getting my 360, the answer was Sky were trying to fit 16 people through a door only equipped to handle 4. Sky said i need to ring BT to get them increase the speed handling on my line, as if they will upgrade their exchange for 1 person. Sky are using Netgear 834GT modem routers and these are not on the Xbox compatability list, so no immediate fix and im probably stuck with an all round unstable internet.
Prior to this i was with NTL and had the linksys broadband router WRT54G which worked absolutely fine, the ironic thing is NTL offered me a good deal to stay and i missed. Sky only offer a 8 day cancelation period which i will argue against as i got no professional install and unstable surfing and modem resets from day one. You dont need me to repeat the motto of the story. I might have missed out on NTLs offer to stay but I now beleive that you get what you pay for with Sky and stability has become more important to me than speed.

Got my reference number but cant get the free service need to pay.
Funny thing is I cant find the costs anywhere and cant get through to Sky on the phone. Keep ending up in a queue "Your call will be answered in x minutes" but x seems to bear no relation to the length of time you wait. So far waited 10 minutes, 20 minutes and 15 minutes then gave up.

We're due to switch over in the near future. Will keep you all posted...
I'm having the same problems as beaker 72, trying my best with sky to get the problem sorted. they told me I need to contact microsoft to get them to configure my router BUT its a nightmare trying to find out who to contact. Have emailed Microsoft so waiting for a reply, soon as I hear will post the router settings, if it actually gets fixed.
Seems I can t browse on my laptop and go on xbox live at same time.
It one or the other and then doing both causes you to have to reset the router.
My hunch is an incompatible router.
Will be cancelling if the prob isnt solved asap.
Shame cos the speeds are great but the drop outs and issues are a real pain in the ass
Did you have any joy contacting microsoft to see if they could fix the prob??

sky broadband coverage is 20% of uk at the moment, 75% by end of 2006, 95% by may next year.

Hmm. Initial experiences are not good. Quite a few dropouts so far. Haven't been able to configure Live either, but that is probably as much to do with me having an odd set up as it is anything else. Will keep you posted.

Just changed onto Sky Connect (my local exchange is not active for the LLU services yet). Smooth changeover, they even sent me a router when I didn`t ask for one (no charge) and getting 7-8mb with no lost connections so far.
