New Sony HC3 for £100

Ok, here's the deal.
I have wanted to get a HD Camcorder to replace my Sony DCR-IP1E but could not justify the cost with SWMBO as I am eagerly awaiting the release of the Sony Alpha 100 DSLR. However, out of pure curiosity you understand, I checked the price in John Lewis and found it was £799. Went to nearest Sony Centre and their price was £999. I asked if anything was different about theirs and they said no, but would price match. I asked if there was any deffered credit deals, and was told yes, but only at the full price, but you did get £100 of free goodies of your choice. 20 minutes later I was the proud owner of a new HC3.
Here's the deal. Pay 10% deposit (£99.90), sign a 4 year credit agreement with an interest rate that would embarass even Gordon Brown, pay £38 per month for 11 months, and a final payment of £481.10 in month 12 (No interest payments). This way you get to play with a HD camera, and spend a whole year paying for it.

Thought this might prove interesting to anyone wanting a new HD camcorder, but was going to settle for SD because of price, or was going to wait for HD prices to drop.

how exactly are you getting the HC3 for £100 by my recking your paying £999for it.

Thats TWO HUNDRED POUNDS more than you should be!!! so your paying £16 a month for nothing!!!

If you want one now, but do not have £1000 (or even £800) spare, you can at least get one and us it for £100.

Personally, I think £16 per month to "Rent" a HC3 for a year is a bargain, although as you get £100 of free goodies that is only £8 per month to use it for a year.

Out of interest, what are these free goodies? Are they really worth £100 - i.e. that may be what they'd cost if you bought them, but would you have bought them anyway? If not, then they're worth nothing.

Also, I'd much rather wait a year until I could afford it, than throw money away in interest payments. Anyway, after a year, you'd probably save even more because the price is bound to have come down.

I really think you should change the thread title as it's very misleading (not to mention totally wrong!)

As the camera does not come with a carry case, a Memory Card, or any tapes, then YES they are worth it, and things I would have bought, (I got a case and some tapes. The memory stick and extra battery are too expensive so I bought them from ebay).

I agree it will be cheaper in a years time, when it is an old model, but what if you want to take video's now? There is no money being thrown away on interest as it is 1 year Interest FREE.

Can you not see that your paying TWO HUNDRED POUNDS more than what the majority of people pay!!?? THATS your interest!!

As for your new title for the thread how exactly would you be using it for nothing for 12 months when you have to give them £100 upfront ?

maybe the title should read " im a sucker whos paying £200 more than i should be for a camcorder and i cant see it and cant really afford it!"
