Reinstalling XP

Hi, I have an OLD Toshiba Satellite 1400,I bought it a while ago, it was running Win98.It has a Win XP product code on the bottom of the Laptop, Under the words Windows XP Professional it says Toshiba then the Product key, does that mean that it is a OEM License? If so, can I use any XP CD ROM to reinstall or do I need a OEM Version?I did find this:-
, but that doesn't help too much as the code doesn't have OEM in it

I don't really want to buy XP, but might be able to borrow a CD, is that legal?

I have looked on ebay for Recovery CD for Toshiba Satellite 1400, but couldn't find anything.

Thanks

Steve

No it won't work. The OEM CD you would have had has a VLK OEM KEY. The code you see on the label, is just for you and gives you a COA. The code will not work as a product key.

Actually, it might be worth a try if you have a Volume license version of XP Pro handy. You can PM me and I'll try it in a Virtual PC with my CD.

Yes, but you need a VLK XP PRO key. The OEM product key will not work with a VLK XP PRO installation.

@stevec46: You're better off calling Tobisha and asking for an OEM CD.

I Borrowed a Compaq XP Professional CD, it installed fine, didn't say anything about Compaq in the installation ,but when I go to activate the code on the Bottom it tells me 'Incorrect product Key', I have looked at:-

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/h...ll/en/coa.mspx

And when it asks for the product key the picture of the license is the Green and blue OEM one, so I presume that the Compaq CD is an OEM one?But surely the code on the bottom of the laptop is OEM?Or does an OEM code have the words OEM in it?

Quite confusing really
