Enermax v Quiet PC PSU

Anyone know which is best. I got the Quiet PC one, but seemingly the Enermax is as quiet, cheaper and has a cleaner operation so it better with video capture anbd TV cards.

Can anyone confirm and is it worth upgrading?

I have the 430W Enermax power supply. It is the quietest large power supply I have had. But it still has two fans in it which can be heard. But I notice that the new Enermax has an adjustable fan that might make it a little quieter.

I had a Quiet PC PSU but changed it for an Enermax 365VE FMA Active and found that it was as quiet with the fans set at 18-2000 RPM. The power specs of the Enermax exceed those of the QPC one as well plus the Enermax runs cooler. There appeared to be an improvement in picture quality but as there was nearly a fortnight between comparisons and I was viewing using an 801s with the QuietPC one and a 1209 with the Enermax the comparison isn't really a valid one.

I'm all for quietening the PC, but can't understand why people are willing to pay so much for, what is in effect, a quiet 80mm fan.

Any PSU will be far quieter when fitted with a "quiet" fan.

This is the only moving part in the unit, & hence, the only noise producing item (mains hum excepted).

I haven't heard the Quiet PC unit, but I expect it's made in the same factory in China as several other "generic" PSUs.

It seems expensive for a 300watt model, by comparison with the Enermax 365 watt unit.

I have an Athlon XP 1800+ (& I like overclocking!), & I'm about to fit an Enermax PSU, a Thermaltake Volcano 7+ HS & fan, & several case fans.

These will all be controlled with a "homemade" baybus, so when I'm using my PJ, I'll be able to switch off nearly all the fans, & reduce the speed of the ones left (just CPU fan @ low speed & maybe one case fan, again @very low speed).

This should give me the best of both worlds - extreme cooling during heavy CPU use, & ultra quiet operation during DVD watching.

I'll post some pics & details when I'm done, if people are interested.

I've no doubt that the Quiet PC PSU is "very quiet", but £54 seems a bit steep.

I owned an Enermax, and 'upgraded' to a QuietPC supply.
No reduction in noise and PC runs much hotter.
Quiet PC is of very cheap construction as compared to Enermax.
Go for one of these with fan speed adjustment (unless you want to buy a second hand QuietPC supply! ;) ).

As Kramer said, you can make a quiet PSU using a quiet 80mm case fan which is all that's inside a standard PSU.

I got a Papst fan from quietpc.com for £14 + vat and postage (I got a quiet radial fan at the same time). RS do even quieter Papst fans (12db) as well.

After replacing the fan in the PSU the noise level from the pc dropped by over 5db. It was reading 45+dbs from 0.5 meters away, and this dropped below 40 dbs after the mod. My sound level meter only goes down to 40 so I can't say how much quieter it really is.
