Anyone in Eastbourne area getting Freeview?

Hi!

Having just had major problems with Sky, I'm thinking of switching over to Freeview. Trouble is, I live in an area that doesn't officially receive Freeview signals.

I spoke to a chap in our local Sony centre, and he said that they can install Freeview, provided that we have the aerial pointed toward a different transmitter (Hastings, I think).

I'm a litte sceptical about this, and I generally don't like to do things that are not 'officially supported' as invariably you get bitten in the backside later on.

So, I'm just wondering if anyone on this forum lives in Eastbourne and receives Freeview without any problems. (Or if you are in a similarly primitive area and have to point your prongs elsewhere!)

Thanks

Hi Darren.

I live at Langney, Eastbourne. When i bought my plasma a year ago Freeview was not available unless you lived on high ground and pointed the aerial at a neighbouring transmitter. Where i live was too low so i got Freesat instead.
I havn't investigated recently whether it is now generally available.

Geoff.

Re: Anyone in Eastbourne area getting Freeview?

I'm bumping this with regard to this thread I've started; I'm very interested in hearing from other people in the Eastbourne area who are receiving Freeview, and what sort of reception they're getting.

(I started a new thread regarding the interference because the issues might be relevant to people in other areas).

Yes, being high up, parts of the Old Town area are quite well placed to receive Hastings transmitter; you might find that although the reciever says you're receiving Heathfield, it's actually Hastings you're receiving; Hastings trasmitter is a relay of Heathfield, and the digibox thinks it's receiving Heathfield.

Glad you're enjoying your Freeview channels most of the time; I actually get all the freeview channels 24/7 with perfect reception - or have done until this blasted interference that started last November after over a year of trouble-free reception (see other thread regarding interference).

Anyway good to compare notes - happy viewing!

Re: Anyone in Eastbourne area getting Freeview?

To check what obstacles, if any, lie between your home and a nearby freeview transmitter click on the Tellyaerial link :

http://www.tellyaerial.34sp.com/ta.php/transmitters

Click on the blue "find NGR" link, enter your Postcode and from the resultant window note your National Grid Reference number (two letters followed by six numbers). Enter this reference number in the Tellyaerial window and select a transmitter from the list then click on the "show terrain" button.

From the resultant window click on the Megalithia link which will show a diagram listing any obstacles between your home and the transmitter you have selected.

Thanks, that's very interesting. Even though I knew about the terrain it's very interesting to see it all shown on the maps and diagrams.
