This'll sound a bit gay but what the hell.

Since my bike crash (21st June) I've been pretty up and down because it was a big one and with less luck than I had I'd have died. That's prompted me to do a lot of thinking about what's important. I bought this figurine for my wife on our daughter's first birthday and curiously enough it's quite an emotional trigger now. So it seems a good choice for today for very personal reasons.

There you go - I'm a big poof.

Cheers Pete - well on the mend (dislocated shoulder, broken shoulder blade, massive bruising to arms and legs but managed to miss every vehicle in the 80 yards I was rolling).

Terrific photo, simple but very nice sculpture taken against a superb choice of background, this will stick out as a favourite for quite some time.

wow, both shots are fantastic - if there was a macro or nature themed monthly comp on here i think your fly would be very hard to beat. i really like every thing about it and would be over the moon to take a shot like that myself.

Hope your feeling better from your crash sounds quite nasty. After several nights in hospital from bike crashes (yes, a push bike) i finally realised while having a CT scan it's time to sell up, so i'll use the money for a long zoom lens.

Thanks very much - it was taken outdoors in my back garden yesterday.

Good luck with the lens Ben - I spent 5 seasons racing mountain-bikes before giving up in 1996 after breaking my neck so I feel your pain!

I broke my back, neck and elbow in a big bike crash years ago, makes you think doesn't it :|

Cracking photo's mate, time will pass and wounds will heal. The important thing is you're still here to enjoy life :)

I also really like the bug shot. It belongs in a gardening magazine. The original must be awesome to see.

Some cracking shots there Radiohead. The last one is the best - what a great shot - really pin sharp focus and a great expression.

Sorry to hear about your accident - hope you mend soon.

First day out and about with the 5D since switching from Nikon. Astonishing lack of noise with it, and loved this little one's eyes

It's very hard work, and there's a couple of days work afterwards to back everything up, sort, process, re-size, upload etc. The wedding you see here had me start shooting at 10am and I put the camera down at 9.30pm.

But yes, it pays well.

I'd love that, a whole day shooting, then the fun of PP begins.

Tempting ,as I was begining to feel bored but woke up once I saw the photos.;)
Most are great some are simply fantastic:smashin:
I love the couples only Poses with the Grounds in the background. Seems good weather was on thier side that day

You and the 5D are getting on I see.:)

3 or 4 questions: ( when you get bored :rotfl: )

Did you use only the 5D? ( .....oh Ive seen the earlier post re: only a few with 30D) Why though?
How much PP?: How were the monos created
Were they all hand held?
Have you considered Sepia for any: quite a few might take it.

Very kind to you to say so. The weather was pretty grim to be honest - really overcast and misty.

Love it to bits and might even get a second one, swapping out the 30D.

[QUOTE=senu;3648068]Did you use only the 5D? ( .....oh Ive seen the earlier post re: only a few with 30D) Why though?

Just because I love the IQ it gives me. The 30D is a fine camera but the viewfinder and 1.6x crop is a pain for weddings. Great for sport and a little small. Truth be told I want a second 5D instead.

How much PP?: How were the monos created

Not a huge amount - some levels, saturation and a little sharpening. That's it really. I used the Fred Miranda BW Pro plugin for the monos and I'm pleased with the results there.

Were they all hand held? They were. I used a combination of the 35/1.4L and 50/1.4 for the most of the indoor shots, the 85/1.2L and 24-105L for the ceremony and outdoors, and the 50/1.4 and 135/L for the meal and evening. It told me I'd bought the right kit at the very least. I didn't use the 70-200/4 at all and I might well shift that and the 100/2.8 macro, along with the 50/1.4 to get the new 50/1.2L as I LOVE 50mm on the 5D.

Have you considered Sepia for any: quite a few might take it. I haven't - I'm not a huge fan with reportage shots to be honest....

Both shot wide open with the EF 50mm f1.2L. I like the vignetting I get shooting with this lens for this sort of shot.

Very Very nice . as usual:smashin:

Why did you use aperture priority?:
Was this for control of DOF knowing that with such good lighting the shutter would be very fast anyway?

How do you find the AE program mode for general use with the 5D..?

Weve done ( most of) the 30D vs 5D questions in the recent past:grin:

Thank-you

I almost always shoot in Av mode - I can rely on the metering in that sort of lighting (and I generally shoot with fill-in on that sort of sunny day). I just keep an eye on my shutter speed, and control the DOF. I think the ones above were around f3.2.

Shes got a few faces... and a patient .. ( father??)

I love the first 2
the last 2 for some reason seem soft... not a bad thing with portraits ( on on theme for this months comp:rotfl:) but seem due to a very wide aperture
That is nitpicking though..
Did you use your 50 1.2. or the 24-105, or indeed your 80mm ?

Sorry for the questions but I find your images revealing of a "people friendly" style which I like.. for people pictures

She is indeed my little one. The last two (probably all 4 being honest) aren't critically sharp, no - no doubt due to me and her moving and f1.4. The 50/1.2 went back though - it had something wrong with AF between f1.2 and f2.8, so I've gone back to the 50/1.4 instead, so these are wide open. All are grab shots (and the top two were me lying on my back and her bouncing on my stomach!).

These are pretty lazy shots I know, but she's my favourite subject :)
