Ok folks, not sure if this is the right forums or even the correct website but here goes.

I need some info on what I need to buy (2nd hand no probs).

What I want to achieve is to put all my music on a small pc next to the hifi in my living room then I guess I want to use a tablet pc (?) with touch sensitive screen to act as an intelligent remote running something like media player. Plus having all the usual wifi stuff for net surfing/

Am I making any sense ??? Mods feel free to move if you feel there is a better place for this query.

Tablet PCs aren't cheap. Why not just connect your media PC to your TV, and use a normal PC remote or wireless keyboard/mouse to control it?

If you use a tablet PC, you will have problems with the limited battery life. A decent PDA with wifi could probably do what you want, but battery life might still be a problem.

I don't really know what I want, but I don't really want to have to put a 42" tv on just to play some music.

Any recommendations ?

I was thinking about a shuttle mini pc ? whatabout a cheap wifi pda ?

Just done a quick read up and I definatly do not want a pda.

Its got to be a tablet, I was thinking of getting a laptop at some point so this will cover both requirements.

Looking at spending up to about £700 on a 2nd hand tablet and a mini pc.

Why not something like a Squeezebox/Roku/Sonos?

These have their own screens for you to select music on and for less than £700 you could get a Squeezebox and a Nokia 770 tablet to control it with.

Alternatively, you could attach the small pc to a 7" LCD
