I went to see the first one despite Kermode's review and within 20mins was regretting the decision, going by this review I think I won't be paying Disney for the privilege of seeing this sequel.

When i saw the first one i too didnt really like it, despite some of my mates raving about it, and i too have no interest at all in this one, i suppose some films just do it for you and some dont :)

I believe they filmed the numbers two and three back to back, but could be wrong.

I can't say I liked the first when I first saw it at the cinema but after giving it a 2nd chance when someone gave me it on dvd I thought it was a lot more fun. Maybe it was the cinema feeling like the aircon was knackered that spoilt the first viewing and made it seem about half hour too long, or the noisy kids... I don't know. It's one of the few films I've seen where my first impression didn't do it justice.
I'll reserve judgement on the 2nd til I've given it a shot, but a shot is what I'll give it

I saw Dead Mans Chest on Wednesday and I have to say I thought it was fantastic! The 150 minutes just flies by. Oh, and has anyone stayed till the end of the credits for the short end scene?

Yep. Watched it this morning, including the v short scene at the end of the credits
Average film (but then I thought the first film was average as well) so I guess these films just don't float my boat:rolleyes:
Keira does though:rotfl: :rotfl:

Yeah that would be nice. That explains why half the people come out of the screen 10 mins later than the first half when we were waiting to go in.
First time we have hard to queue for half an hour for a good couple of years.
Loved the first movie, this was ok...enjoyable in places, but thought the story wasn't great.
I also do not like movies that finish half way through, if you know what I mean. They never seem to work.

Just incase you weren't put off by kermode's review I linked to earlier here's a less biased review: http://askaninja.com/node/1178
God that was painful.
In a movie where absolutely nothing happens in terms of plot or character development, why oh why did it have to be so long?

Gotta say quite enjoyed it myself - some good humour in places in it.
Missed the end of the credits so anyone able to post what happens?
Also is it just me or does it feel like they ripped off Empire Strikes Back a bit?

did anyone have a pirate run into the cinema before the film started ?
I watched it at the odeon at the printworks in Manchester.
Just after the trailers had finished the lights came up and a pirate came running in to the cinema shouting arrrrghhh there be pirates in this screen, but I'm not here to prosecute you, I'm here to tell ya about a treasure arrrrgggghhhh.
etc etc etc.
was just a big P.R. stunt for the compo with that 4x4 buried somewhere in the world.

:) went to CINEWORLD in middlesbrough screen 11 today, yep enjoyed the movie but what the heck was the movie soundtracks problem??   there was no bass whatsover and the movie sounded as flat as a fart:mad:

I have to admit, when I watched it I found it to be the same. But doing my screen checks at work has seen in other screens that the soundtrack does come to life. I think it's down to where you sit in the cinema. Most people believe that middle, centre is the best place to sit to get the "sweet spot", when actually it is one of the worst places due to sound reflections cancelling certain frequencies out which includes bass. Obviously it depends on how the system is calibrated, but unlike HC it is not calibrated to a particular seat.

It was entertaining and the effects very well done. However, I felt it was too long, some scenes just went on and on. But I am looking forward to the third movie.

I have a little story about something that happened after viewing the film as it draws on plot references its in SPOILER text. Dont read if you have not seen movie
When we left the cinema there was 3 girls near us one was crying her eyes out saying "I cant believe Jonny Depp is dead! Keira Knightly is going to be the most hated woman in britain" Her friends and everybody who heard her imediatly began to laugh themselves silly. How can someone get that detached from reality? Did she think that his charecter dying ment that he died as well? She was still crying five minute later when I spotted her at the tube station. Suppose someone will need to set up a helpline!

Agreed. It was way too long for a "kids" film and after a long hard week at work I was falling asleep at various points. My girlfriend had to keep elbowing me to wake me up.
I'll definitely buy the DVD but will make sure I've had a good night's sleep before sitting on the couch to watch it!

Loved it - Captain Jack becomes more iconic with each film and I was also impressed that there was more homage to the ride, albeit some repeated from the first film. I can't wait for the 3rd and final installment which is apparently going to be very dark.

There'll be some flagons of ale being thrown back at Disney HQ this morning. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest fair destroyed the competition and every record in its way. Over the weekend Pirates 2 took $132 million, shattering Spider-Man's previous record of $114.8, which included the biggest opening day ever of $55.5million.
The success of Pirates was bad news for Superman Returns, which dropped by 58.4% to $21.9million. That takes its gross so far to $141.7 million, hardly small potatoes but very disappointing for a mega-budget movie of such clear quality.

Saw this last night and a few people had said they were dissapointed with it! But i really loved it! Dont take it too seriously and you'll have a ball!
Such a classic adventure movie! Some really funny bits (mainly Depp! ) Good ending too, cant wait for the next one!
Cinematography was fantastic and i thought Zimmers score was very good too.
Ok, it probably could have been cut down to nearly 2 hours long but thats a minor complaint!
8.5/10
And after the end credits......
you see the dog that got chased by all those natives sitting on the throne with a huge bone in his mouth and all of the people worshiping him. Not really worth staying behind for, a preview of the 3rd one would have gone down a lot better!
I assume that everyone knows whats after the end credits of the first one??

Mark Kermode is very funny but he is an ass when it comes to what films are good and bad.
I loved Pirates 2, very funny.
i think overall i enjoyed it, but i was aware of some parts being on the brink of being 'too' slow, and they relied on the same set piece three times in the movie, which i felt was a bit lazy, despite the "k" being very cool.
spotted a few more references to Monkey Island again in this one too :) Oh Guybrush, how i miss thee...

Agree with some of the comments about it being slightly too long and lacking pace in the middle, but a well made yarn. Thoroughly enjoyed it, and picked up a few subtle references to the 1st... Keira's dad clumsily pulling the light fitting off in the jail, and the classic "Hide the rum !" when she first reacquaints herself with Jack ...Waited around for the extra bit, and wish I hadn't bothered :suicide:

i never got to see the after credits scene, and from what you say, it was not all that. I had my own nightmare whilst waiting halfway through credits and i had to dash, with my 7yr neice and getting a sweet getting stuck in her throat, thank god it was not serious and she was fine, and got some new toys afterwards. But i could not reflect back to what i thought of the film for a few days.
So i like to say enjoyed the film, very funny in parts,
- SPOILER and the giant octopus was just great. overall 8/10

I kept thinking of Return of the Jedi. Jack trying to blow the fire out.
I enjoyed the film mainly but found the fighting scenes just too 'Lord of the Rings' - Too crowded, too much CGI, too hard to see what's going on.

Pirates of the Caribbean, a few thoughts.
No spoilers or story hints.
So went to see the new pirates movie to day, dead mans chest. Here a few thoughts.
Johnny Depp as captain jack gives a repeat performance to match his first outing and you either love him or hate him depending on how you view the movies. Personally I thought he was just a little over the top this time, but captain Jack seems to be the one that everyone is going to the film to see, so I can understand where the director, Gore Verbinski was coming from on this. I can see the meeting of the studio execs now,”give them more captain jack, as much as the poor devils can handle!”
Speaking of performances, Orlando Bloom, Mr charisma he is not. I fear that he has less personality and life in him than a damp sponge on a rainy day floating out to sea.
Keria Knightly is just as bad and I found them both boring and irritating to watch this time round.
The movie itself is to long, and I feel the pacing is also way off. I sat there about an hour in to the film wondering what the time was and how much longer it had to go. This is never a good sign when watching a summer blockbuster, and not how I felt when I watched the first one. In fact I would say that the first movie is a great deal better than this one in all aspects, which is why I felt so let down by dead mans chest.
The musical score to this movie is suitable bombastic and heroic when something actually happens on screen.
The music was composed by Hans Zimmer whose is also know for the movies, the rock, Gladiator, batman begins and the Davinci code.
I also liked the effects work, Davy Jones played by bill nighy from Shaun of the dead and underworld gives a very good motion captured performance bringing his character to lifer under a ton of computer generated imagery. The kraken (a huge sea monster) is also out to impress and looks very cool on the big screen.
So to cap it all off, a big disappointment which I am sure will still take a ton of money at the box office and not only lead to pirates 3, but a whole host of other movies and spin offs as well.

Predictable, lacks oomph in certain places where needed, too many set pieces, the novelty of Jack sparrow is wearing off...............
But I still enjoyed the film and came out with a smile on my face  Oh well Supes next week, have reservations about this one........!!

Agree with Dave S. Overlong and story was a bit unfocused as well. Also agree with Askaninja (http://askaninja.com/node/1175) - would have been far better if it had been Ninjas of the Caribbean ;)
