suggestions for teen films?

Hey folks,

We have two exchange students staying with is, 13 yr old spanish girl, 13 yr old french boy...

our own little guy is only 3 so we have a shed load of disney dvd's which are probably a little on the kidsey side for our guests... we watched 'a series of unfortunate events' the other night which went down well... any other suggestions for films that kids this age would dig?

oh crap... am i getting old?

Hi,

I would suggest the Back to the Future trilogy. great fun and pretty lighthearted.
also, maybe the Incredibles / Pirates of the Carribean / Harry Potters / X-Men / Spiderman films.

shouldn't go too far wrong with those.

Could always consider the classics such as Ferris Beuller's Day Off, Wierd Science, 16 Candles etc.

Featherhall's suggestions are solid, but you could also consider the diluted horrors, such as The Ring and Dark Water. Nothing in them really bad IMO, they are 12/15 certificates and it also could win you kudos for treating them like adults as such.

you can't go wrong with john hughes. well, ok you can, but as long as you avoid big dogs and kids left on thier own in houses, you can't go that far wrong. mind being born in 1993, the 80s are probably alien to them and they wouldn't appreciate pretty in pink or the breakfast club

all that spiderman stuff might go down well, but the kids might have already seen some of the blockbusters like i robot and minority report

you could maybe even try lord of the rings and the matrix trilogys. dunno if a 13 year old girl would be into that tho

well what about taxi, or some of luc bessons other movies like diva, subway, nikita, etc (check the ratings tho). there may be some other decent french films that are semi popular over here, like french connection 1 and 2, i think it's about a clothes shop or something

btw, on channel 4 on sunday they had a top 100 family films, if you google up or look on the c4 website it might give you some ideas

Introduce him to the french classic, La Haine.

Its about 3 troubled teenagers in 1990's backwater france.

I think he will like it. And you will too!

For French film another vote for Taxi. It's a 15, but only due to a bit of guns and swearing from what I remember.

And you can pick up Taxi and Taxi 2 in one box set http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayP...;-1&sku=336439

Exclamation

Hi,

I too recommend some of the better French and Spanish films. Also, don't forget that many of the "15"-certificated films in the UK, were given far more lenient ratings in France and Spain, so a lot of material that might be seen as contentious to us Brits, is probably fairly normal viewing for French/Spanish teenagers.

You could try any of the following, whcih all have English subtitles too:

"Brotherhood Of The Wolf"
"Intacto"
"Run Lola Run" (German, but it's a damn good film, with a simple plot)
"Dances With Wolves" (the story works, irrespective of the language you speak)
"My Neighbour Totoro" (U certificate, but a beautiful animated film for everyone)
"Pom Poko" (As above, although a PG for some minor scenes of soft crude humour)
"Taxi" (Actually a very tame 15, but only because of brief use of the f-word, and a single not-too-strong sex scene/brief female nudity. "Taxi 2" however, is a "12" certificate.)

Good Luck!
