Help me out people, I'm a real audio dunce.

I'm watching the US/R1 version of Resident Evil Apocalypse and whenever there's loud sound, the sound will lower dramatically in volume. After that it will slowly rise again - it's a real pain.

The effect is less when turning Dynamic Range Control ON but it's still there.

My player's menu settings:
Digital Out HDMI: Downmixed PCM (don't think this makes any difference though)
Dynamic Range Control: Off
Dialog Enhancement: Off
Speaker Setting: 2ch

It's connected via HDMI to a Stereo TV (Sony KDL-32V2000).

Edit: it doesn't seem to have the problem over the SPDIF output...

Does the TV or player have a 'night watching mode'?

Not sure about him but my Comptuer controls the sound and i get the same problem. As soon as the sound gets to a certain level it quietens and makes the dialog almost inaudible when it happens.

Only gripe i have with the player. Pretty much only the player does it too, everything else connected to my pc dosent go quieter. :suicide:

It doesn't have a "Night mode" or anything else, nope.

Doesn't seem to be happening with actual HD-DVDs though.
