Can anyone clarify my aspect ratios?!

Maybe im not thinmking straight, but im marginally confused.

Im going to be using a 4:3 projector which is projecting onto a 16:9 screen. Using the hcpc for dvd playback, will the auto aspect display both anamorphic and non anamorphic correctly without me having to alter my projector?

Then, using an LD player, will the pc similarly be able to display the non anamorphic image without need for projector adjustment?

And further still.....can the desktop be displayed in a widescreen format?

The answer is yes to all the above.
You should set your HCPC at a widescreen ratio (1280x720 for example).
The software will then detect this and set up the ratios accordingly.
It's as simple as that.
Dscaler is probably best used on manual for aspect ratios. Therefore you will need to tell it which to be in.
TheaterTek autodetects perfectly.

The only settings that change on the pj will be betwen two memory blocks for (I'm assuming barco btw) different refresh rates if you've got them (one for PAL one for NTSC) This might also change the resolution if you wish. Some people use 1440x768 for PAL.
Again the software should recognise this and change accordingly.

Actually its a crappy lcd im afraid......so basically i just set it to 16:9 mode and forget about it?

I ask because at the moment, to watch a laserdisc, i have to change the projector to 4:3 mode or else it doesnt display right.....it would be nice to just have all such things done with the pc.

Actually, it is more complex as the pj probably doesn't accept a widescreen resolution. Assuming 800x600 then you may have to manually set something in the dvd software as you would with dscaler. I'm sure it's not going to be much of a problem though. It can certainly all be done on the pc.
