It probably won't be too long before I cave-in and get myself a Toshiba HD-DVD player. I've been thinking about the best way of accessing the advanced audio codecs and it looks like LPCM from the HDMI connector is probably the most straightforward in my situation. I could use 6x analogue cables (+video)from the player but it wouldn't be as neat as a single cable solution and I'd loose my audio delay facility.

If there is anybody doing this, what receiver/processor are you using? any issues, quirks or bugs with the tosh that would make this any less plug-and-play than, say, normal coaxial spdif? Finally, if you've had chance to compare, how do you rate this compared to the other alternatives, i.e. analog out or re-encoded to DTS+ via coaxial output?

I'm using a yamaha 4600 and it sounds awesome. Sounds better than ordinary optical and dd/dts through HDMI. Receiver shows MPCM on the display throughout playback.

Slightly lower in volume, but no bugs or quirks to report here.

Thanks Sehepking, sounds promising which is what I wanted to hear. I'll have to investigate the Yamaha 4600 along with the Denon 3806.
