“Samsung has no intention to join the HD DVD player market,” Kim insisted. “But if market trends are going to HD DVD or to a universal player, then we are going too. But we are concentrating on Blu-ray. A universal player introduction will be based on the market.”
The quotes read more like:

"We aren't going to release a combo player, unless HD-DVD does pretty well, then we will. And if HD-DVD take over the market, well go to that. We're fully commited to Blu-Ray, but we may change our level of commitment at any time"

Nice one Samsung! That spokesperson should work for the government - I've never read such an open-ended, covering-all-options statement in my life!

If Samsung don't plan one I'm sure another manufacturer will pick up the gauntlet pretty soon.

Here's hoping, sooner rather than later
