HDMI Splitter

Ok, seeing as the A1 is R1 only and I have a plethora of R2 discs, I'm still going to make a lot of use of my current Philips Upscaling DVD player. Of course my TV only has the one HDMI slot. I really don't fancy spending too much on a splitter. Will this be ok to split the signal?

Now I know that it is made to split the same signal to go to two TV's. But what I'm wondering is if it will work the other way if I only have one player on at a time? So I'd have both my players going into the splitter, and the splitter going into the TV, but of course I wouldn't have both machine's on at the same time...

as per the item

This is NOT a SWITCH, this will SPLIT a signal, not combine 2 signals into one.

basically one dvd player in - Plasma & Projector out. It splits one signal input into 2 outputs. Not what you want.

Try Joe Ferdnand at the media factory as he has some good switches but they are fairly dear. £119 for a 3 in 1 out and £150 for a 5 in 1 out.

Interesting question. One problem may be signal degradation as I guess all you HDMI cables will be active at the same time. Also even though one player may be turned off the physical connection still exists and this may degrade the signal further.

I use an Octava switch but it costs a bit more (£120) but works well.

Edit

This is the switch DVDchild mentions

Now that looks like it does the job. But is the hassle of having to physically change the HDMI connection really worth £48 to fix?
