I was in the States over last few weeks. Suprisingly difficult to find a HD-DVD player.

Best Buy & Circuit City in NYC had none in stock, nor on display. The only player I found was in a Walmart in Fort Myers, FL. The Walmart in Orlando had none.

I gave up looking after that.

I can't speak for stock, but you can find both Best Buy and Circuit City stores on the streets very near (easy walking distance) to the Florida Mall. Best Buy is on the west side of the Orange Blossom Trail as it heads south from its junction with Sandlake Road. And Circuit City is on the East side of the OBT as it heads north from the same intersection.

Beware of mains voltage difference; you may need a transformer - and beware of HM Customs & Excise when you return. If the object (or the total of your goods) is worth more than GBP145, it's taxable. You can't offset your GBP145 allowance against a single item worth more and you can't pool other travellers' allowances to exempt an item either.

I was in orlanda for the first 2 weeks in May and could
only find the A1 but I wanted the AX1 so imported when I
got back. I went to Best buy and got some movies though.
They seemed to have them the day they came out which is
usually a Tuesday. I also went to Sound Advice but they had
nothing and Circuit city were actually just starting to bulid
a demo area solely for HD. They had coming soon signs in
the window. Spoke to one of the sales guys there and he
knew what Blu-ray was but not HD-DVD. Blockbuster seemed
a waste of time as well. Oh well it's 6 weeks since I went so
you'll probably have more luck than me. Do watch the demo
disc if you get the chance though!!

Does this sound like I spent 2 weeks in CE stores or what?

Nobody seems to have mentioned Target in Kissimmee (there are others as well). I haven't been for 5 years but I would be surprised if they didn't have any since they sell a lot of gadgetry.

Try the circuit city over at the Millenia Mall. They had PSP's last year when all the other stores didn't. You can drop the wife off at the Mall first and she can spend a couple of hours looking around bloomingdales while you browse to your hearts content :-)
