Please help to sort the freeview problem

Hi ,

Please help me to sort out my problem with free view topbox.

I have just bought a FreeView Box: Sony VTX-D800U for my bedroom. Having connected to the roof aerial ( the very old aerial), there is no signal appearing on the screen. The signal strenght=0, the signal quality=poor.

However, with the same aerial as I stated above( very old), my TV with freeview built in ( Sony ) in the living room has very good quality picture.

Please show me how to sort the problem out. Is buying a digital aerial a correct thing to do? If so what kind of aerial will you recommend? I have a very big loft available to install loft aerial. Will a new free-view aerial solve my problem or just a wast of money?

I am living in London E13 8BU where I checked on the freeview website, it is OK.

Is there any one suffering from the same problem?

I am looking forward to your helps. Thanks in advance

It may be stating the obvious but have you tried tuning it...scanning for Freeview signals?...you don't just plug an aerial in.

Thanks fore your advice, But the problem is that even though my VTX-D800U was bought as like new, the pre owner had set a PIN number on it. In order to retune the box , I was requested a PIN number.

I could see a long list of channels such as : BBC 1 , ITV, THREE.. . . but with the phrase: " NO SIGNAL".

I think may be the box has problem??!?!?

The original owner has probably been on a different transmitter than the one in your area.
The box will need retuned before you can use it so you do need to unlock it first...you will need to ask him for the pin no he used...once you get it you can set a pin of 0000 (4 zeros) and it won't ask for a pin again.

Thank you very much JayCee. I think you are absolutely right about the pre-owner from a Transmitter different from my location. I tried to contact to the seller, but he didn't answer the phone.

I would post a new thread about VTX-D800U and PIN forgotten & How to reset the D800U to "Manufactory Default"

I tried to set a new PIN to "0000". However, I was requested a current PIN.

Again , Thank you very much for your advice
