Help! My Creative Zen has crashed!

Just bought the Creative Zen Sleek Photo 20GB from Argos this afternoon.

Got it home and transferring some files when I pull the plug on the USB mid-transfer.

Now the unit if just hanging there saying 'Docked'. My computer won't recognise it and I can't switch it off.

Any ideas?

Sorry guys. I've reset it and it appears to work. BUT when I plug it into the computer, it's no longer being recognised as a 'portable music device'. What's going on????

not sure if its any help

I am new to MP3 players, but not to mass storage USB devices. Some MS devices can simply be unplugged without a problem, however some need to be stopped first. There is an icon that appears in the start up tray at the bottom of your screen, you should right click on that and it opens a box asking which drive to remove, you need to stop the drive before safe removal. I have had a couple of MS devices that have gone corrupt after not shutting them down.

I don't know the device, but can you right click on it and reformat it on your computer?
Failing that, ~Argos are very good at accepting back faulty goods.

What operating system have you got? Sometimes older O/S's have trouble with USB devices, is the Zen Sleek Win Xp only?

I would go to Creatives site and see if there is a reset procedure also.

OK! Panic over.

Reset the Zen, rebooted, uninstalled and then reinstalled software and it's working like clockwork again.

I suppose anything of this nature will have its little quirks and it's just a case of getting used to them.

I've got to say that the audio output is truly excellent - even using the packaged earphones. I'm very impressed. Knocks the spots of the iPod and 2 Sonys I tried.

Now I've got to go about the arduous task of converting all my CDs. The real pain is that my computer only has a USB 1.1 port which makes transfers a living hell!

Cheers guys

Well Argos were out of stock but im getting another one from a different argos which is nearby anyway today so yeah.

I'm taking out the Argos insurance thing....for the zen its £20 for 3 years insurance.

If it breaks they give you a new one. Can't beat that can you.
