One is the recorded tv - nice thumbnail of the first scene

The other is the tv guide

I'll get some more if any one is interested

What about viewing this via an XBOX360 - Do we see the same GUI ?

If you have a broadband connection you can download Vista Beta 2 free for 12 months (which is Vista Ultimate) and it includes Media Center.

Head over to MS and get it there.

But be warned it is still in beta. 32bit version is more compatable with tv cards too.

also beware that the current Beta of Vista does not support Pal Xbox 360 so cant use as an extender just now
Wish microsoft would release a patch so we can try it before commiting to the full version.

the 32 bit does work fine with the xp drivers for my two nova-t.

It really stuggled with 1 gb of memory though - recommend 2 gb to get it to look nice.

Tried the extender on my UK xbox and it seems that microsoft have only released the region 1 extender software, so only the Yanks can play with it:mad:

Guess there must be a reg hack somewhere to change this though.

Aero does make a difference to MCE as well.

Heres a screen print from the movie side of MCE - don't have any movies to show

looks interesting, ironic thing is im a beta tester but cant get to test it or give feedback because i cant install the damn thing! lol the last 5 beta releases i havent been able to run on my machine because i only have 256mb ram :god: :suicide: the previous versions worked good tho

got my nova-s-plus card today so i may just trying installing the latest vista with a hack i know to get it to install (obviously il try the card in XP MCE first and thru my 360 too)

how did you get the EPG like that? is that only available to DVB-T? (i know MCE only supports DVB-S thru DVB-T tho)

Id love to have my pc (which will be upgraded if this works) play bbcHD thru my MCE pc

Beware if you plan on installing vista and have blckgold or sweetspot cards as they are not compatible at the moment.

I've had to put 2gb in mine to get it nice and smooth. Thinking about upping the gfx card - got a 6600gt at the mo. Have a AMD 64 -3500 and that hoovers around 60% usage, so may move over to a AMD2 chip and board with DDR2 mem.

The epg does indeed work with dvb-t cards - both my Nova T's do work.

I'm was going to upgrade the aerial - currently in the loft, as some channels lose signal once in a while, so please let us know how the sat card goes.

It seems that aero even improves the inbuilt games, and def does make MCE look smooth.

blackgold works perfectly for me:thumbsup:

Which drivers did you use? I forced it to use the 5.17 one that came with my card. The tv was not smooth, it was unwatchable.

What I find amazing is my previously troublesome Terribletec 2400i now seems to work very well, as does my 1400i and as does my Nebula PCI....

I had some troubles initially but after I uninstalled the nVidia Vista drivers and went back to the Microsoft supplied nVidia driver for my 6600GT everything was fine....

I do like the improvements they've made....Like the Guide superimposed on live tv....And even when you go to the menu the tv continues in the background and not just in the bottom left corner with a solid colour screen...Very sophisticated look....See the pictures below...

Now if only they would implement PIP and MHEG5 it would be perfect....

Oh and they've definitely changed something within MCE, because I'm now getting the same good sensitivity within MCE as I previously only got outside MCE....Very promising....

has anyone worked out how to exit MCE with the remote control?

I finally found it last night :)

You have to go to the main menu (shortcut ALT+HOME), then select Tasks, then scroll to Shutdown and then select the option you want....Absolute madness...

Hi guys

i am just uprading my PC to media centre 2005 on my pc (AMD Althlon 64 3500, ASUS A8V Motherboard, 2GB DDR RAM, GEFORCE 6800GT)

Can i download the beta vista and install it like a dual boot? I really want to use vista but also want to have full compatability with my XBOX 360 which media centre 2005 will be fine for. Plus i would want the 64 bit beta version and be able to delete it when i buy the full version

dejongj

Yes you can dual boot....I would stay clear of the 64-bit version for now as there seem to be reporting quite a few driver issues...

I'm not sure what to do then. I have never used beta software and noy sure how it all works. Maybe i should just to my PC to MCE and stick with that until the full version of vista is out?

But can i still use the beta versions of Internet Explorer and Media player 11 on MCE 2005

If you don't understand the concept of Beta testing, I would stay well clear....Beta testing means it is not the full product, they are still testing for more error and have a long list to clear them up...Though it is considered stable enough to have a try and the likelyhood of breaking your machine in not that great....

I don't understand how my advice not to use the 64-bit version is corralated with not doing it at all and wait until the release version is out (remember the Beta is the full version...)...I mean what is stopping you having a go at the 32-bit version?

Personally if you are reliant for your TV on your MCE box...Don't install any beta's on it......

I just thought that using the 32bit version would show any advantages over the current versions of windows

dejongj

I'm assuming you meant wouldn't show any advantages....Well let's just say that the changes are subtle compared to MCE2005 but those that are made as great in my opinion...And to me it seems like they've done something to the 'kernel' as well....In MCE2005 I couldn't tune correctly and got lower signal, in Vista that is gone and it is much better strength and recovery of blibps on the the signal....It is worth it...
