There is no software that can read Blu Ray or even HD-DVD yet afaik. My money is on either WinDVD or PowerDVD being the first. PowerDVD already has HD capability with WMV HD playback.

We have the Samsung's.

Have the samsungs been confirmed to be able to play the 50GB discs? or at least that its a simple firmware upgrade to be able to do so. Since tomshardware says

In an unfortunate twist, the BD-P1000 apparently – though not verbally confirmed by Samsung - is not capable of playing 50GB dual layer discs. Page 8 of the instruction manual contains a chart that states only single layer discs will play. Further down on the same page is a compatibility disclaimer noting the format is evolving and all disc types will not work. While no specific mention is made of a future firmware update to support 50GB dual layer discs, mention is made of updating the BD-ROM version via firmware. Samsung would have to be foolish not to offer a firmware update to support 50GB, if it's even possible through a simple firmware update. That's a question best suited for the technophiles.

Since it sounds like from earlier reports than the Blu-ray picture quality useing Mpeg 2 on the 25GB discs isn't as impressive as the HD-DVD picture on 30GB discs using mpeg 4? So buying a player than doesn't support the 50GB discs would be folly. That said so would releaseing a player that didn't play them so I'm sure they must be able to. I'd find out for certain before spending that sort of money though.
