Mogwai-Young team

Big suprise, I thought this was some sort of hip hop or clone metal band.

Nope, wrong. Its one of the most inventive pieces of music from a guitar band. This is guitar lead ambient music like MBV, but instead of fuzzed out guitars theres a gorgeous easiness to the sound like Adventures beyond the Ultraworld by the Orb and then sudden washes of heavier riffage a la Tool. Infact there are one or two pieces that make me wonder who go there first.

This is stratospheric stuff and must be a close runner for getting in the top 50albums of all time. A stunning debut that seems to be overlooked.

AMD mentions them in the same breath as Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, MBV and Talk Talk, but I think this does them an injustice as they dont really compare, the music is totally different they just happen to be in the same experimental scene.

Very Good, well worth buying 9/10

I've been a fan of Mogwai since the late 90s, ever since hearing Like Herod on the Peel show

I remember borrowing "Come On Die Young" when it came out and just not "getting" it at all. Might be time to revisit now as I've started listening to ambient music recently. Thanks for the prompt.

I did enjoy Mogwai's "Blur = ****" T shirts a few years ago though...
