Dv88+ +sdi
Can the DV88+ be upgraded to SDI? If so, how much is it and would it be worth it? To be fed into Lumagen PDP into Fujitsu P50XHA40US. WHere would I get such an upgrade done?
Cheers
Nic

I'm sure that the DV88+ is suitable for modification...the chap to speak to is Elliot @ PJ HiFi ( elliot@pjhifi.co.uk)
The upgrade for the DV88+ seems to be more expensive than other makes/models comming in at around £475...most models cost around £325...not sure why the difference but I'm sure Elliot can advise.
As to whether its worth it...all I can say is that my SDI DV29 feeding my Crystalio II produces a stunning image that would be very hard to beat.
Cheers, Lee

£475 !!! You can buy another DV88+ for that price! Seems a little steep to me ! Maybe I'll reconsider.

I suspect £475 is the cost to modify a DV88 and includes £150 to replace the video decoder board with a later one with the Vladdis 5 mpeg decoder. As I remember, the DV88+ already has the later decoder so should only cost £325 for the SDI mod. I would check though that this is correct.
FWIW, I had my DV27A SDI modified at PJ HiFi and was really please with the results. In my system (VP30/ABT102, H79 projector, 6ft screen) the image definitely looks cleaner, like a layer of dirt has been removed.

An SDI output board takes the signal directly off the MPEG decoder chip before the DVD player has any chance of processing and possibly degrading the image, giving you the cleanest possible signal to feed into your video processor. You will, of course, need a video processor with an SDI input.
There's a further explanation of SDI here:
Why do I need SDI?
