my brother left some stuff at my mum's house that he doesn't want anymore and there are a couple of AV related bits that i thought i might be able to sell on ebay or something... the one thing im puzzled by is an:

SONY YR-1000 S-RGB TRANSCODER

which is almost brand new condition with original box and instructions etc.

i just don't know what it is and what it might be worth on ebay or to somebody into this kind of stuff.... any ideas?

It converts an RGB signal into an S-video one, as in this little advert I picked up by googling:

FOR SALE
Sony YR-1000 S-RGB Transcoder (to get best results on TV with no S-VHS input), RGB input (SCART) required: £50

You even get a suggested sale price :)

I would have thought it was the other way round?

where did you see that? i couldnt find it when googling... if they still want one for £50 they can have this! it's in absolutely perfect condition too!

EDIT: wait.. you put FOR SALE at the top so that might mean they are selling one... but you put required at the end which might mean they want one..

HiFiver, on re-reading it I think you're right, its converts S-video to RGB scart,

bunyboy, they were selling it, it says "RGB scart input required" not that they require one unfortunately.

It was here, bottom left hand corner of the page:
