Component -v- Scart in a Panasonic Viera plasma

I am trying to connect a Panasonic S29 DVD player to a Panasonic TH37PD60 plasma.

It seems to me that Scart has the following advantages over component:-

1 It caries audio, so no separate audio cable needed.
2 It is cheaper on a £ per metre basis.
3 It allows auto-switching

My understanding is that Panasonic Viera plasmas do their own progressive scan processing and so any picture quality benefit of component over Scart would be minimised.

At the moment I am inclined to go with the Scart route unless others can persuade me I am missing something.

It depends on who is better at it, the DVD player or the plasma. There is no general answer to it, as so often it depends on the combination. Trial and error I'm afraid, or if you can't be bothered go Scart.

Thanks.

My plasma is wall mounted and so it is not an easy matter to swap cables around to see any differences.

This thread

Component VS RGB Scart, gold co-ax etc

seems to suggest that with my set up (ie a cheapish DVD player and a goodish plasma) component is only going to be mariginally better than scart.

I will probably go with scart.

Next question is whether a 5m length would be appreciably worse than a 3m length? (Richer Sounds, where I need to take the component leads back to, only do 1.5 or 5m lengths - I will have to order elsewhere to get a 3m length)
