Denon AVR4306 HDMI switching problems

Whilst I wait impatiently for my 4306 to turn up in the Denon backorder lottery game I decided to have a look to see if any other dealers were showing stock. I came across this disgruntled owner review. Has anyone else experienced similar issues. I think you would have to have a SkyHD box or HD-DVD for it to manifest itself.

Yet another one blaming the Denon for the problem when it's the set-top box that is the cause. A lot of set-top boxes won't talk to HDMI repeaters which is basically what the Denon act's as. There's a fair few threads about it at AVS Forum, Audioholics etc. Have a read here:-

No such problems here.

I have Sky HD and my DVD recorder both connected to the amp using HDMI and have no problems with the ouput to the screen.

why have a pop at denon?
people should do their homework first before trying to integrate kit.

it seems recently that a lot of people are coming onto this site just to have a go at denon.

i know for a fact that without the help of people like JASE an awful lot of folk would be blaming denon when it is actually their own lack of knowledge/understanding that is the problem.

i have lost count of the things that people blame denon for when in fact they cant be bothered to read the manual cos its "too big".

This is not gratuitous Denon bashing. I am a fan of their products. This will be my third Denon amp and I have other bits of kit too. I am less of a fan of their ordering process which appears shambolic and their support which I have never yet succeeded in making contact with. Still, whilst they continue to bring out great sounding products with class leading feature sets I will keep buying them and rely on forums like this one to provide support.

I am less concerned with whose problem this switching issue is than getting confirmation whether it exists, especially with SkyHD. I think this problem goes a little beyond the scope of a RTFM issue. Just another sad case of a standard not being standard enough. In the old days consumer electronics were largely spared poorly implemented standards and slopey shouldered suppliers. Now they seem to have been "converged" in from the IT world.

sorry my friend..........this was not intended as a direct attack at you
it is difficult enough these days to get everything working seamlessly without certain manufacturers adding sneaky bits into their kit as self protectionism.
it does seem however that a lot people expect sophisticated kit to behave like plug and play and when thing dont do what they want, either blame the manufacturer or dont bother to read the manual.(not you)

The problem is that HDMI devices should have a flag test system, which asks three big questions: Are you HDCP compliant? Are you a display? Are you an inbetween device.

So a source like a PC with a HDMI card or some boxes may only ask the first 2 questions so the device is perfectly fine when connected directly but the minute you put a HDMI repeater in you get a problem be it a denon amp or standalone box.

The above also applies to PC DVI-D video cards beacuse they were designed to work direct to the display or monitor.
