Still getting used to the camera and the new lenses but getting there I think, trying to step away from auto all the time but sometimes I just want the shot garuanteed :)

I like the macro ones, but some of the others have distracting backgrounds, try and use a larger apeture (around f4) to throw the background out of focus.

Thanks, still playing but will try that :)

Few shots from yesterday. Was playing with the new lense and the ducks butt was at 400mm handheld.

Exif data should be intact but if not let me know if you need it.

Like your macro stuff.

Nice try with the first duck one but it would definatly be sharper with a faster shutter speed. 1/80 at 400mm hand held, with a moving subject isn't the way to a sharp photo. Not sure on the best way to correct that though as you had already pushed the ISO up to 400 and at f5.6. Unless you could get closer to the duck giving you the extra stop on the lens nearer the wide(er) end.

Other than that you could try shooting a faster shuttign in RAW and compensating for the exposure during PP or even push iso to 800 then try to reduce the noise in photoshop if is needed.

I'm no expert, but thats what i would try

Heres some more form Nunney Castle, the first batch were ****** p00r to be honest so we wnet back and got some more. Taking more time with the shots and considering the lighting and metering more :)

Stalked the ducks a bit more this time too ;)

I like the last 3, excellent composition. It looks like you though about the shots before you took them.

Thanks, yeah the first time was just wow shoot that and move on. I'm getting more into composing the shots and taking my time now :)

fantastic improvement mate - really geting so much more out of that L glass now.

The ducks are so much sharper your first ones and you can tell you've taken more time with each shot. Keep it coming

A few taken with the new 17-85 :)

Buying soo much glass it's hard to keep up at the moment LOL

Might be odd but I love a good church:

And these seem to be my favourite type of shot:

Nice work. Definately leap in quality there, especially the sharpness. I do like the circle of stones picture.

Use the stones in future shots, at F4 you could get some really nice depth of field using the stones in both the fore and background.

Good work.

Pete.

Ooh nice idea mate :)

Am getting to grips with metering at the moment then will tackle DOF :) Had some mixed results with metering from different area's but I'm getting there.

Thanks for the feedback mate, means alot :)

Some more from this weekend.

Cheddar:

I was trying to get a wasp and a bee on the same flower here, was a quick macro taken from a safe [LOL] distance using the 17-85 in macro:

http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g78/h4rri/IMG_6016.jpg

Didn't really turn out as well as I wanted, not bad for a rushed shot though.

Some beautiful rock structures around this area:

http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g78/h4rri/IMG_6018.jpg

http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g78/h4rri/IMG_6049.jpg

A couple of more posed macro's here, used a monopod but feel [after the fact] a tripod would have been better here:

http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g78/h4rri/IMG_6082.jpg

http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g78/h4rri/IMG_6083.jpg

Sailing academy at Portland, they had some kind of international event on at the time so lots of boats about. Snapped a few but for the main the clutter was off putting :)

Get in there:

And a tree from Burrington Combe, don't know why but this looks sooo lonesome:

Decided to have a wander about last night to see what shots of the sunset could be had. Not much going on due to the awful haze :( We did however find an ideal place, asked the guys permission to use his field and he even came with us :) Lovely bloke who was happy to chat and told us we were welcome back in the future :)

Again wasn't much in the way of a sunset, the cloud cover and haze prohibited any decent shots. Did however find a lovely fallen tree worthy of a couple of shots :)

One of those laid down shots, I love the 17-85 and the brightness of the shots:

http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g78/h4rri/IMG_6339.jpg

Testing low light macro with my 60mm. I love the way you can see the actual line where the bokeh comes in:

http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g78/h4rri/IMG_6346.jpg

Caught these earlier in the evening, wasn't sure about the blur but feel it adds to the 'speed' feel of the rabbits and was my first panning attempt:

http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g78/h4rri/IMG_6308.jpg

If you're interested [yeah right I hear you all cry] the rest of the shots are on the site in my sig under Castle Cary [08-08]

A few from Longleat at the weekend, spent most of the time swapping from the 17-85 to the 100-400 :(

Hi mate. Your on the right track but can I give you some advice. Spend a little composing your shots better and look at tighter crops in PP to get a better look and feel with your image. They are nice pictures and testament to your gear but you can take your pictures/skill forward with a litte thought.

This is meant to be constructive and I have enclosed some two minute revamps of your latest stuff to highlight what I mean. I hope this helps. Of course, I am not talking about becomng a cs2 wizard, just simple levels, curves, saturation and framing which helps if you display your stuff in the digital domain such as this.

The zebra could have benefited from being shot in portrait mode to get the legs in but keep going - your work is improving mate

Thanks :)

I must admit I don't generally touch PS unless it's to resize en-masse and I should do more. Might get some time to try it this weekend. Thanks for the comments, all the advice is great for helping me improve my shots and use PS a bit more :)

A few new ones:

Macro test of the 17-85:

The 'wide' end of the 10-22:

A very dark corner of the wood:

A regular visitor to my garden, just sat there and let me take shots. Unfortunately he was facing the fence so couldn't get around him:

Some shots of my new cats, some with the 24-105 then switched to the 50mm for better indoor performance. Didn't want to frighten them with the flash just yet ;)

The little girl Gemma, some were taken at 3200ISO :|
