Perceived sized in relation to distance?

OK, so choosing between the 43" & the 50" Pioneers I decided on a 50" 506XDE. But now I've had a thought.

If I had a 43" on an Alphson stand it would be around 9.5ft from me rather than the 50" on the wall at 11ft. Going 43" would save me about £1k (Incl. cost of stand).

My Celestion A2 Fronts and A4C stick out into the room anyway, so using a stand over and wall mounting doesn't cause a problem, in fact it provides me with a home for the centre speaker.

So my question is.... Would a 43" at 9.5ft look around the same size as a 50" at 11ft? I could do with saving the difference in price so long as the perceived screen size is similar. This is for the living room, I already have a 10ft (wide) screen in the HT room.

And please don't say put the 50" at 9.5ft, that'd never get past the wife

Mark.

Yup, exactly the same 18.7 degrees viewing angle, which equates to what you call perceived size (I'm guessing the fact that the angle is identical isn't a coincidence?).

Anyway, it's not worth £1k for a slightly bigger screen imo, if you already have a large screen elsewhere.
