What a Difference!!!

Didnt know which forum to post this in so I chose here. Just a brief encouter I had at the weekend, first off I looked at my future brother in laws Hitachi 42 fed via sky signal, I asked him to flip through the channels just to get an average impression of it, as I have previously stated I aint jumping on the big tv scene for at least another 6 months.
in my opinion for what its worth, blocky pictures, frequent ghosting, and general quality looks washed out.
overall wow factor = 4/10

Then today I whent to see my son who has got a 42 phillips, dont ask me wot model cos I didnt ask, but the interesting thing here is that he was feeding the signal through a media centre he built and the quality was far better than the sky hitachi setup. Okay I understand there could be numerous things at fault, and I am not looking for opinions about which tv is better for whatever reason, I think on the whole if you keep things simple sometimes then you get just as good results if not better.

So hornydragon without starting a debate here and maybe I did not explain myself clearly was, picture quality through a tv card basically was better than the sky broadcast. So could you give me an example of all kit needed for what you call a proper plasma setup?

we normall try and work to a budget, however the ones to demo are the 42PHD8 panasonic and the P50XHA58 Fujitsu both can be found on demo if you look hard enough as for source thats more limited as SKy and cable supply the hardware. correctly implemented any decent DVD player or STB should look incredible
