Buying American......

Are there any other issues I needs to consider when using 110v bits of kit, apart from getting a 110v - 240v converter.

I am considering specifically getting a sub shipped from America, but my query equally applies to other components.

With subs a transformer should suffice to make it work properly over here but they need to be fairly hefty items and could cause more problems than they cure by inducing the dreaded hum into the system.

I did run an imported DVD player with transformer in the early days and whilst that was successful the current required for a DVD player is much smaller.

Is that true about import duties when for example buying used from ebay.com

I would have thought the duties would be paid when new only ?

I had to pay duty on a second hand satnav I bought for my Jeep. Nightmare as the first one didn't work, so had to send it back to the States and keep all evidence so I wouldn't have to pay twice ('phone calls, forms, more phone calls, more forms....) still Customs and Excise were helpful
Second one had a minor fault too, got it repaired locally (after a major hunt for someone who could do it)... just hope you're luckier than me
