Is Black The New Silver?

Just about to buy a few bits and pieces and I was wondering what you guys think about colour choices for components?:confused:

Silver has been dominiant now for the past few years, but I have a notion black may be the new silver, returning from the wilderness after a long absence? :cool:

Indeed, black and silver combinations, such as used on the new Sky HD box and the Toshiba HD DVD players launched in the States may be the next colour scheme we get?

Any thoughts on this - I'm really wondering what I should plump for myself ! :grin:

i really hope black is on its way back. i really detest silver electronics and have avoided them like the plague where ever possible

What I really cannot stand is price hikes on something just becuase it is silver, the hardware is just the same so what justifies the cost (example silver ps2's), imo silver av equipment looks cheap and tacky.

Having recently bought some second hand Arcam stuff I initially wanted to go for black (had I been buying new it would all have been black) but for the second hand market there is so much more silver stuff available. Still looks and sounds great whatever colour!

With regards the TV I think black is best, it hide when you have the TV switched on where as silver you still notice.
As for amps etc I think black s more discrete and does not shout at you. I have a silver video and Sky box under the tv and even in low light I still spot them out of the corner of my eye yet my black DVD player for all intense purposes is invisible.

I think I may well plump for black gear then :)

Only silver bit I'll have is my DVD - but I'm sure I can get a black one when I'm going HD-DVD in the future........ :)

Definately black, I changed my gear lately from all black to a mix of black and silver - black/silver screen, silver speakers, silver amp, black CD, silver/black DVD, grey sky+.

Although it looks ok I still wish all the sources were black, I like that uniform look across your kit rack :cool:

My Toshiba 42WLT58 is dark grey, upgrading that to Toshiba 42WLT66 or Samsung SP50L7HX, both black. I definately like black AV gear. We had a spot of some white kit as well like Sky+ and Sky Pace boxes.

tbh i dont care what colour it is so long as i get it....heh

if i'm offered a choice, i'd probably go with uniform colouring.....when i got my Denon 3803, the only one they had in stock at the time was silver, so i took that and matched the 3910 in silver......my MF A5 was only in brushed alu with a s/steel chunky volume knob and black bar handles.....still it all matches up pretty well.......works nicely with the glass/chrome rack and the rosemah finish speakers...heh...

oh currently in an apple white room with a mottled light green carpet....heh...black would probably have looked a little out of place, like the charcoal coloured Dell tower....lol

but thats just an aesthetic view, tbh as i started the post saying, i couldnt care less, i'm after the sound and vision.....mebbe when WAF plays a part i'll be a tiny bit fussy about it for her sake...lol

Maybe in the future hifi components will be able to change colour and shape,
So you could have a purple mongoose singing on your kitchen table.

I dont care that much about black or silver but the rotel range caught my eye- silver body and blue lights, it just looks good.
