I have heard that the HDMI connections on the Toshiba HD DVD players are unreliable and that they can take a long time to sync (and sometimes even stop playing) if the source or channel is changed on a connected AV amp, switcher or display - does anyone else have experience of this?

It is a requirement of AACS to stop playback if HDCP is lost. If you switch source whist playing a HD-DVD disc you interrupt HDCP and you will get an HDMI error. This is not a bug or fault but a function of how AACS is implemented in the Tosh firmware.

Hi Dazzx

Thanks. I'm not familiar with your display but out of interest is your Sd/HD comparison using HDMI input for both?

Thanks. Could be that your display is not droping HDCP beacuse it's still connected when you switch to SCART hence no HDMI error. All my sources go via an HDMI switch so the player is disconnected when I switch to a different source. As I posted earlier I've read that this is how AACS is implemented and not a bug or fault.

It sounds like you are suffering from the Hot Plug issue, the Tosh does not support it and alot of HDMI/DVI switches cause HDMI errors because the Tosh does not react to Hotplug assertion. It might be fixed in the upcoming firmware release.
