PS3 to be £425? Blu-Ray on the cheap!

Well according to The Register anyways...

http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/05...k_ps3_pricing/

To be fair that's really not a bad price for the top spec model.

You get a Blu-Ray disc player, 60Gb drive, games console and entertainment center in one.

My first DVD player cost £600.

I'll keep an eye out for pre-orders I reckon

..and it's always been like that. We've always paid more than the US, always, it's not like this is new or anything.

Hell you can still pay well over £600 for a high end DVD player today. £425 doesn't seem that bad compared to the cost of the announced standalone BD player which in the US range $999-$1800. I guess the million $ question is what's the difference in PQ/sound etc if any and we won't really know until both are available.

Yeah, but we all know how good the DVD player was/is on the PS2.

I think as an 'all-rounder' the price is acceptable.

Lets face most on this forum are enthusiasts rather than your ' Joe average ' comsumer so it'll suffice for the masses and thats a good thing.

As a result I reckon that videophiles will buy the stand alon BD player and if they like games get a PS3 any way !

I'll probably end up getting one, but will wait til they've been out for a while, I considred getting an xbox 360 butnothing on it shouts " BUY ME".

Either way it's bound to be a success.

what's your point? I'd happily accept 'average' 1080p playback.

thats for the high end one. If you don't need wifi/card reader slots and HDMI, and a 20GB HDD is fine, then the cheaper PS3 is around £340 if you convert the 499 euros directly

The thing is that consumers don't want to get caught up in a format war and most of them don't care if it has a blu-ray drive. To most people it's just an overpriced games console and most gamers that I have spoken to won't be buying one.
