Anyone had this problem?Checked cables and there fine. Also it's very noisey, more so then my xbox360.Not blown away by the picture at all yet but might be because i've got the right hump about the HDMI ERROR! problem.

Copied this from ''Acknowledgement of Firmware Update (for lock ups) from Toshiba?''thread over at avsforum
We've got one other interesting piece of high-def information today, and it concerns those problems we've been having with our Toshiba HD-A1 HD-DVD player locking up on us during playback. Our industry sources are telling us that the problem is not so much with the player itself, as with its remote (so both the HD-A1 and the higher-priced HD-XA1 are affected by this issue, as they basically use the same remote - it's just back-lit on the XA1). It seems that the remote is very sensitive, so that sometimes when you press one of its buttons, it inadvertently sends more than one command to the player. This can cause the player, in effect, to become confused and stop responding. I'm told that if you have a universal remote that can learn commands, and you program it correctly with the Toshiba remote's basic navigation functions (and use it for this purpose), your player will respond normally without errors. This makes sense to us, because as reviewers we're typically pretty aggressive when it comes to skipping around discs, going in and out of the menus very quickly, etc. And nine times out of ten, that's when we have the most problems. Toshiba's engineers are apparently working on a solution (presumably a firmware upgrade to the players) to deal with this issue. We'll let you know when it's available. Meanwhile, now that you know what's causing most of the lock-ups, you should have an easier time avoiding them.

had read that already m8,but like i say i wasn't touching the remote 1st time it happened was 5min into the film.I tried another film and left the room as i didn't want to watch it,went back 20 mins later and sagem had change to another input and the same error was showing on player.
Had 2 errors show so far
HDMI ERROR !
HDMI ERROR 0
Haven't got a clue what either means but it driving me mad.Waiting for an email from Craig.
Also can hear the machine clicking away when trying to read a disk, seems a lot louder then i expected.:(

Does sound like a faulty machine:( but there have been issues both on AVS and here that relate to swapping HDMI sources and then going back to the DVD player, have you tried to plug the dvd player direct into your HDMi socket without anything else connected via HDMI? and run the disc again. It could be your box is noticing may be a disc error and switching over and then trying to switch back. Of course it could be a bad player:thumbsdow

Well top marks to Craig and movietyme, there coming to collect the player on monday and give me a full refund on player and disks:thumbsup: The disks have been opened as i needed to check the problems where the same on all disks.
Would off gone for a replacement but not over impressed with the picture quality and cklicking noise. Not sure if it's the sagem or the player. Was expecting picture quality to be a lot better.
Gutted now as i was well looking forward to my new HDDVD player.:suicide:

There is something wrong somewhere. I too have a HD-D1 and XBox 360, and the HD DVD picture is as good, if not better than the 360 Trailers I have viewed so far.

IIRC there was one report on the AVSforum about someone suffering HDMI errors with the supplied cable, but no problems with a newer cable. (can't find it now amongst the hundreds of reports over there)
If it is losing it's connection then this is definitely a possibility.
(I don't have my player yet so i've obviously had far too much time on my hands reading everything on the net :) )

hi
i'm using an hdmi cable bought from argos for £25 no problems other than the remote one.
tried the supplied hdmi cable with my lg lcd when i first got it setup could not get a picture at all kept saying no signal . not sure whether it was the tv or the cable as i havn't used bot since.
by the way what is the native resolution on the 67"dlp
simon
I had HDMI error once when I turned it on before my I turned on my display.
By turning on the display followed by the Toshiba it worked fine.

HDMI Error 1 is bad HDCP hand shake. Are you using an HDMI or DVI input on your Sagem? Have you tried the cable with another HDMI device?

Hmmm I have similar problem cant even get to watch 5 mins of a film, as soon as the disc goes in and loads up HDMI Error 1 message comes up.
I have the HD-XA1 connected via Lumagen HDP (QED HDMI to DVI cable) to Sony Ruby (DVI to DVI Cable).
Only picture I can get thru it is the Tosh players set up screen, TOP!!! :thumbsdow

My mate and I got it to work but pressing play (when the HDMI error IS shown) until it starts playing the disc and the timer starts on the front panel. The next step was to press stop and then play again, which then made the PJ we were using sync up and play!
He has since told me that not forcing the PJ to auto detect a sync makes it work from the moment you load up a disc! Strange huh! I hope mine is OK when it arrives!

What settings are you using for HDCP in the Lumagen ?

I've got HDCP turned on in the menus and have tried both DVI inputs. Have fiddled with the sync settings but not conviced this makes a difference as I can get the setup menu it just seems like a HDCP thing. Dont know what else I should be looking at but any advice welcomed.
As an update, connecting player direct to Ruby with HDMI to DVI cable is fine, likewise with an HDMI to HDMI cable This narrows it down to an issue with the Lumagen being in the chain or the 12 meter DVI to DVI cable I have between Lumagen and Ruby. ( I think)
I have also tried set up with another 1 meter DVI to DVI cable from Lumagen to Ruby and 1m HDMI to DVI and still the error HDMI Error 1 on the Tosh so problem would appear to be when Lumagen is in the chain.

The supplied Tosh cable works fine for me. You can get hold of a 2m molex HDMI from Joe at the TMFsolutions.co.uk for about £15. Or you can go out and spend alot more but it won't improve PQ IMO unless you are looking at longer > 7m cables. BTW I've used QED and other £50 - £90 2m HDMI cables to reach this conclusion.
