I have had my ADSL from BT upgraded from 2Mb to upto 8Mb since Monday but have yet to register any speed improvement.
I should be able to get 6Mb according to their automated test thingy...but I'm stuck at 2Mb still.
I have a D-Link 604+ router which has the latest firmware and as far as I'm aware supports 8Mb.
The Line Condition page reports the Downstream Link Speed as 8128kbps and the Upstream as 448kbps but when I try anyone of several speed test sites the best I get is around 1913kbps download yet I get 357kbps upload.
Any ideas ?
Have I got to change something on the router ? or is it not suitable ?
Cheers, Lee

Lee,
You need an ADSL2/2+ compatible router. Apologies if you have already done this, but does it say in the manual that the router is ADSL2/2+ compatible, as I can't see anything on the website to say that it is?

Wasn't under the impression that you did. ADSL 1 will go up to 8 meg and ADSL2/2+ up to 24 or so depending on the distance from the exchange.
I should be regraded next week a week from the order to 8meg although the line checker says I will only get 3 :(

Hi
have you rebooted the router? I think you need to do so before it picks up the new settings.
Cheers

My router is not ADSL2/2+ compatible but it does say it works at 8Mb.
Have rebooted the router...but I haven't noticed this period of negociation when it trys to connected at the fasted speed possible that they mention...it just connects straight at 2Mb.

How long ago was it done ? For the first 10 days, BT test your line so it could be 6Mb one minute and 200k the next. If not, call BT as they might not have upgraded you properly.

Yep, I'd repeat what Richie said. I've just gone through this process and the actual speed increase takes some time. My provider, Plus Net, didn't get reports from BT to increase the speed settings (it's throttled back initially) until it had been stable for around a week.
I'm now at over 8K (on my modem) but speed tests show around 4.5k and PN have me at 7.5k

It's only been since Monday...but I've not noticed any increase or drop in speed since.
I've just rung BT who confirmed that any ADSL router is fine but as you say it takes 10 days to configure and that I should reboot the router each day...normally it's on 24/7.
Guess I'll have to be patient and see what happens this time next week.
Cheers, Lee

i agree with the others. however, there was some issue where speeds stuck at 2mb - i think people were advised to turn modems off before the transfer occurred. check out the forums or front page at adslguide for more info

Looks like I learnt something new :). I obtained the following from the Plusnet forums which may be relevent;
BT Wholesale is receiving reports that a small number of end users regraded to a BT IPstream Max product are experiencing delays in the setting of their Broadband Access Server (BRAS) profile. In some cases this is remaining at the default of 2Mbit/s for the first few days of service, and not following the line rate within the normal 75 minutes as expected. This does not effect the normal operation of the service but may limit throughput on some services achieving Line Rates at or above 2272kbit/s to that of a 2Mbit/s fixed rate for up to 3 days.

My account was upgraded (went live) to the MAX service 3 weeks ago. My line is rated as 3MBPS or greater, Ive had nothing over 1600MBPS and mostly get about 1200MBPS and as low as 280KBPS :thumbsdow
When I was on the bog standard 1MBPS service I was getting 850KBPS consistantly
For the last 2 weeks BT have been looking into it for me ....blah, blah, blah..... 2 more days of this and they are getting binned :lesson:

...many others appear to suffering from this problem.
I'm with Eclipse and regraded about 4 weeks ago. My router syncs at anything between 2 and 8, but my max speed is no different to before the regrade (2Mb).:(
I think this problem is affecting all providers who are offering Max.
I suspect that BT have been caught on the hop and haven't configured the exchanges correctly to cope with the sudden increases.

Well, well just got a call from a BT engineer who as kindly re-built my setup (there end) and viola a 50% increase in performance. Now at 2500KBPS average (-ish).
What a difference 1/2 an hour makes :)

Im still having problems with mine after 2 weeks. It still fluctuates between 0.2mb and 6.6mb. Changes daily. Not good
Looks like BT are having problems (surprised?)

Most homes' phone wiring messes up their adsl signals. Try doing this if you don't have a filtered faceplate:
http://yarwell.blogspot.com/2005/08/adsl-tweaking.html
Then plug the router/modem into the test socket (behind the master), if you have one. Here's a little graphical guide (very simple process):

Sometimes this does nothing, but equally quite often it will add several mbit to your speeds.

Yep had been running my system through the test socket for a week but no improvement :thumbsdow
Seems OK now though :)

With MAXDSL your not promised speeds of 8mb you can have up to which depends on a lot of facts.
Distance from exchange
People downloading 200:1 ratio now
Also you may be syncing at 8 but you might only get 3mb speeds if that
