hey all, i've been looking around on google but cant seem to find an answer.

What roughly, is the legal maximum db level that we can play music at?

I mean, I usually listen at ~80db in room, but its nowhere near that outside of my room. even in the kitchen below my room the volume isn't overly intrusive.

I just wanna know if i can safely turn it up without having my equipment confiscated by plod.

Irrespective of any laws, you shouldn't really be playing it too loud that it'll annoy the neighbours!

The lad next door to me plays his occasionally with the bass turned up but it's only for half an hour every couple of days! Personally I can cope with that but would be cheesed off if he did it any longer as it's a real intrusion.

I'm sure there are laws but you might want to try Environmental Health who no doubt will have a website.

Get some soundproofing!!

Cheers

Plod wouldnt confiscate your equipment, police do not have any powers re noise nuisance, although they would assist the local authority enviromental health dept if they wish to confiscate it, but they would first have to serve you with notices and so on...

Just dont have it so loud and hey presto you wouldnt have to worry ....:lesson:

i think at night (past 11pm iirc) the volume limit is something silly like 45db...lol....ie more than a fridge makes but less than a human voice at normal speaking levels (around 65db, again iirc).......i'm struggling to remember for sure tho, i'm going on what i remember from being on the CJB rally many moons ago...heh

during daytime/early evening, i'm not so sure if there is a specific db limit so much as whether or not it is affecting the lives of people around you......ie if they complain and keep complaining and you keep ignoring warnings from the environmental people then eventually the police can come around and take your stereo and then charge you to have fun smashing it up with a sledgehammer.....lol....unless the law has been refined since it was passed....if it has then my knowledge could be a little out of date (around 10 years or so....CJB was passed quite a while ago i think)
