Iandrews picture thread
I have just got a Canon S3is and suspect I have a lot to learn about shutter speeds and such like. It has replaced my 5 year old Fuji 6800z which I just pointed and shoot with. I hope to post some of my first pictures with the S3 soon, but in the mean time here are a few of my favourite pics taken with the 6800.
The 1st is London on a very sunny day in November about 4 years ago I think.
The next 3 were taken in Barbados last year. The Sunglasses are unfortunately a bit out of focus.
The 5th one is Sydney last year.
The last one is a waterfall in Iceland, taken at the end of March.
All were taken on Auto.
Ian.

The waterfall photo looks like something straight out of National Geographic...I really, really like that!

some nice photos there Ian
I especially like the shot of the Sydney harbour bridge. The sky helps to give the picture some real impact.
I also love the picture of the Falls. I like taking landscape shots and I'd love to go to Iceland as I've seen many fantastic photos of the island, that shot of yours included

Just seen a lovely bright whole rainbow. I tried taking 3 pics to stitch together, but for some reason it didn’t want to stitch the 3rd one. So attached are 2 stitched together. This was taken with my 6800 as the S3 has had to go back because of a faulty 4 way + button. Photos fit in perfectly with the weather theme but I don’t think any I got were better than my entry so far.

Here are a few of my first pics taken with the Canon S3 (before it had to go back). The first 3 have just been re-sized, while the moon is a 100% crop.
Don’t think the little chick (moorhen I think) is taking much notice of the sign.
The moon was taken hand held, and there was a thin cloud haze in front ot it. It was quite low at the time, and still had a orange tint to it. I changed the shutter speed until I got one where it wasn't just a blob of white, but also wasn't blurred.

Here are a few (well 9) photos that I took for the Movement theme. Any feed back (good or bad) would be welcome.
The 2 horse one’s were taken at Worcester races. I tried panning with the horse’s to blur the background, and keeping the camera still to blur the horse, but they just seemed to go by so fast that I kept not being able to get a whole horse, even with fast continuous shooting (horse1 is the best I got). I think horse2 shows “Movement”, but is slightly out of focus, and missing the heads.
An (adult) birthday party I went to had a bouncy castle. I tried to blur people bouncing but it didn’t seem to work too well, not sure if it was too bright, or the blue of the castle, but they were either too blurred or not blurred enough even with different shutter speeds, so the 2 jump photos are trying to freeze the movement.
The 2 clocks were just long exposures (10 and 5 secs I think) in a dimly lit room. Don’t think there is anything really wrong with them (apart from you can see me and the camera) but I didn’t think they were that exciting.
The 3 flags are the best from about 200 I took. I tried different shutter speeds, as well as flash off and on (1st and 2nd Curtin). The main problem I had was that because the flag was moving it was hard to get a good focus. Also the fan had to be on the highest setting to keep the flag up, but in doing so the flag fluttered too much. All 3 below are more zoomed out then the one I submitted for the comp, and was the look that I was trying to get, however I just liked the zoomed in one better.

Re: Iandrews picture thread
Went along to Tower Bridge this evening to get a photo of it in the Up position for this months photo comp. While I was deciding which side to stand I took some test shots. I really like this one especially the colour of the sky.
Unfortunately the bridge didn’t lift for another hour so it was dark by the time it did, so I was unable to get this backdrop while the bridge was up.

Re: Iandrews picture thread
Zor2003, it’s 2 photos put together with a program called Autostich. I took the first photo, and then took the second, but made sure that there was an overlap of the 2 so that the program could stitch them together. (In fact I took 3 photos but the program didn’t like the 3rd).

Re: Iandrews picture thread
Just got back from a weeks holiday in Natal, Brazil. While I was out there I tried to get some photos for this months comp. These are the ones that I considered, any comments welcome please.
The first 2 were taken while on a beach buggy trip to the sand dunes (very good if you ever go) to the north of Natal. I though the dark rainy sky brought out the bright sand, and in the 1st one the people enjoying themselves and life.
The third was at a Logan surrounded by the dunes. It was very hot, and these people had the perfect place to try and to keep cool.
The last 5 were all taken on Ponta Negra beech (where we stayed, to the south of Natal).
I have no idea who the 2 blokes were, but they seemed to be enjoying life walking along the beach drinking fresh coconut.
Then there is a discarded coconut.
The beech had a numbers of vendors with a variety of "wheel borrows", they all seemed to be enjoying there "job", and who wouldn't, walking up and down a hot and sunny beach all day.

Re: Iandrews picture thread
I was torn between 2 photos for this months comp. This is the one that I didn’t enter. It’s the Lloyd’s building in the City of London where everything seems to be inside - out.

Re: Iandrews picture thread
Cracking photo of the Lloyd’s building Ian and it would have been a worthy entry for the competition but I think that you made the right choice in going with the St. Pauls pic. Two superb night shots, well done
