Cloudy Moon

Hi all, just my second stab at this little game and the first being quite a while ago now.

Thought I might be able to get a nice detail of the moon with some clouds around it but soon found that impossible (begginers hopes I suppose) with either a nice moon face (something like this) but no clouds or some clouds in shot and the moon too bright with no detail. If anybody knows if this is possible and how you do it, some tips would be appreciated.

So I settled on this, but having come here to upload I noticed that it is remarkably similar to bowenjones' picture. Apologies for that and not intended, but since I'd taken it, I thought I'd upload it. This is taken (obviously) in the middle of the night and I have applied no processing other than a resize.

Cheers,

Nick.

I agree, nice shot.

As far as I understand it is fairly difficult to take a shot with moon face detail as the moon is moving in relation to the shot. You need some specialist equipment to either give you a much shorter exposure time or to move the camera with the shot.

Nice shot Nick - for me the clouds take it from being 'just' a moon shot to being a shot that fits better with the weather theme for the comp. Well done.

I agree. Nice shot Nick, the clouds give the shot depth. A cloudless sky would have been a bit dull IMO.

Thanks for your nice comments . What I was originally going for was a cloud filled sky with a detailed face of the moon peaking through but I soon found that the different brighness of the moon and clouds made this impossible. At least for me. I have a Fulifilm S5500 which I used, to answer your question beachy.

It's got mood!

A moody look to this methinks. As per other replies, nice.
